A zillion things at the same time..

I can not do, "a zillion things at the same time."  Unfortunately, "that is the life of a music producer."

Think about it..   You have to:

Do your drums, do your bass, do you guitar, do your synths, write your lyrics, compose, sound design, mix, and master.

I'm just noticing this, because I am making a track right now, and I'm trying to play some leads on my guitar, and I'm just noticing, "over the last 8 years that I have been producing, I could have been becoming like a guitar expert."  Which sadly, "I'm not."  I've got some serious gaps in my knowledge about scales, and key when it comes to guitar.

Instead I'm like this, "music multi-tasker."   And I hate that, "jack of all trades, master of none analogy."   IMHO, it doesn't really apply...  I'm not, "a little good at music, and somewhat good at golf, cooking, painting, and sewing."

However, I'm certainly not like, "a virtuoso guitarist."  Just haven't had time to think about scales, and staying in key, and getting some finger speed.  I've been so busy multi-tasking thousands of things.

Music production is, "unreal multi-tasking."

Guitar virtuoso is like, "focus on one thing."

Anyways, apparently I can do, "a zillion things at the same time!"

HA!!!

I can do a zillion things at the same time.
(However none of those things are actually useful or productive...)

Funny coincidence - tonight while working on one of those older songs I recently dug out , I realized how much fun it was to just sit there and record guitars.

I always plan proper recording sessions, but most of the time, things change, parts need to be re-written as I go because I'm still in the creative process. And overall, I just want to move on to the next thing. But there's always a lot of back and forth and re-recording as the song progresses.

W/ that older song, however, it's like recording a well rehearsed piece. All the parts are figured out, I know the arrangement works, which type of sound I should use where. The drums, the bass, and all that stuff is all figured out as well, so all I need to do is focus on the guitar and play along. And I'm in no rush of getting things recorded, so I can take my time.

I ended up recording a bunch of different takes for each part, using different guitars, taking the time to really work on the tone of each guitar, making subtle adjustments.

Now, tomorrow will be a different story - once I get back into the engineering mode, I'll have a heck of a job auditioning all that stuff, cleaning it up, figuring out what to use and mixing it. But it was worth it.
