Sonar X2A rehearsal recording tips
Hello Last nite I had Cakewalk continuously running for two hours recording a band rehearsal without pressing stop. I did this so the rehearsal kept its flow. I'm now left with a considerable amount of editing between tracks, although to help with this I pressed M to mark between songs. Does anybody have any tips on how to make this more efficient (with X2A), I have another rehearsal tonight. I might try track templates but again this could stop the flow of the rehearsal, so probably not! Cheers Alex

Sorry I failed to state that each track played needs to be in it's own Sonar Project for mixing and overdub purposes. So considerable cutting and pasting into new projects is required (as a rehearsal just takes one project). This being a reheasal I'm not queueing the band, telling them to hold on whilst I set up etc and setting up new projects. Otherwise please check original message. I guess the same situation applies to live recordings. Please recommend any time saving techniques (of course templates are always a good idea but not necessarily the case in my scenario). Then again maybe I should change my appoach. Tips please. Cheers.

What I don't understand is the "rehearsal" part being at all something you want to do anything with except play back as is if that. If you are trying to turn it into a recording to make a project out of it you should look at the "Is there a better way" thread further down the page.

Sorry to state what may or may not be perceived as obvious, but often rehearsal recordings can turn into demos. In some instances they can end up being the backbones of the main recording or even be the main recording. When you are working with live bands you are trying to get a performance down via a number of techniques. Also some bands perform better during rehearsals as they can be more relaxed.

I do this all the time Alex. What works best for me is to get together with the band. Sort out all our sounds etc, and save the template. From there, with each song I do, the song is saved as it's own entity. Close that project, open up the template I created, and we're into the next song. I've done things the way you did them and man....never again. It's just too long and too much to edit and there are times you make a change for one song and forget you did it and it affects the other songs. So your best bet is to just record one song, save, reopen the band template, record, save...and repeat the process. I can't think of an easier way to do this. My band template (which is pretty intense) opens in 5 seconds with loads of plugs and VSTi's. That's how I do it....good luck. -Danny

Cheers totally understand that's how I'd like to do it, appreciate the advice, however it's almost like a live recording scenario at a venue here. I guess maybe I should have stated that in the first place to avoid confusion. What would be great it to be able to set up markers in one long project, click a couple of buttons and it would slice and dice it into brand new separate (shorter) projects according to markers. Cheers... Alex
