Getting multiple CC#64 events with half damper pedal

I just purchased a Korg DS1H - Piano Half Damper Switch to take advantage of half pedaling and I notice that there are Several CC#64 controller values of 127 recorded with a single depression and hold of the pedal.

I'm talking maybe 30 events recorded while holding the pedal down for just a single dotted half note. The pedal has been calibrated with the keyboard (Korg Oasys) and should be working properly. At least the half damper is functioning properly. That is an excessive amount of controller data and not sure why it would continue to send the same value repeatedly while held down.

Just curious if anyone else is using a half damper pedal, with any keyboard, and seeing the same results in Sonar X2a producer. I appreciate any feedback.

Kind regards,
Rick

    Hi Rick

I use half-dampers on a couple of bits of Roland gear; a Jupiter 80 and an RD700-GX. While they generate a lot of CC64 events, I haven't had multiple occurences of the same value. I'd be interested to try and find out why you're getting this. Some sort of midi loop perhaps?

I gave Korg a call today and didn't get very far but they are suppose to get back to me late next week about the issue.

I tried multiple things today and it definitely happens only with the DS1H half damper. Used only the midi out on the Oasys, disconnected the midi in from the DAW, so not sure how it could be a midi loop.

Going to check the pedal on an ohm meter tonight to see if there is something going on with the pot when the pedal is fully depressed.

Korg stuff is kind of weird. Did you try searching their forum for an answer? It's a slow moving place but there are lots of archived threads that hold nuggets of wisdom.

    Yup,

Searched both the Korg and KarmaLabs forums. I use to hang out there alot.

Not very many issues that I could find. Usually, the user would load a PCG file that could re-write the global info which included that half pedal calibration file in the oasys. Another instance where a capacitor in the key matrix had died and was causing the issue. (don't want to go there...)

I did find out that it does use an ALP's potentiometer to allow for the differing values of CC#64 but I don't know what the range of the pot is suppose to be. I do get some varying resistance values while the pedal is at full pedal depression so not sure if that could be the cause.

I did see a funny little thing from one of the Korg product development guys that said he actually used the Yamaha pedal instead of korgs and how to change the polarity info in the global file.

I will shoot Korg another call Friday to see if they can at least provide tech info on the pedal but they usually get tight lipped when you start asking questions regarding electrical components and specs. They don't publish them online...
