Beyonce singing to backing tracks on X2 at the "White House"?

The crowd missed out... there is nothing like listening to an actual real life Marine Band playing the songs they know so well.

Just for that number.. as per orders... or so it seems... the spin pros have the stories going back and forth so fast it's hard to keep track.

One quote attributed to a USM rep said they were told to stand down.

A subsequent quote attributed to a USM rep said they aren't in a position to make statements such as the one reported previously.

I am guessing, after watching the video, that Beyonce ripped her ear piece out when she got to the short duration notes and they started going by so quickly that the latency between her ear piece and the slap back from the mains stacks became painfully evident. That would make it very, very hard to know what to lip sync to.  It seems, to me, that she recovered somewhat and got back on sync by listening to the mains.

I feel for the crew running FOH... having to push play on a cue makes me tense and nervous. ;-)

    best regards,
    mike

That makes sense I wondered why she ripped her ear piece out.

I kind of though maybe it had something to do with the intelligibility of the live audio.

I guess the anxiety gets high for someone probably accustomed to more control over the situation, a person could inhale a feather and then what?...better have a trigger finger on the play button.

Some folks should use tracks...maybe even of somebody else.

I love all these people defending her as an artist by saying that it was "too cold to sing," despite that other teenybopper (can't think of her name sorry) singing perfectly well in the same temperature. Someone on another forum also posted a list of other famous inauguration singers who didn't lip sync, along with the temperature of the day in question (many of them lower than Beyonce's).

Let's face it, if there's one single second of recorded Beyonce that hasn't been Melodyned to kingdom come, I would be very surprised.

She does appear to be quite technically proficient, but I'm still not that blown away by her singing style. It just seems that nowadays, if a singer wraps their notes in the same generic ornamentation and has a certain look on their face when they're singing, they call it "soul." To me it sounds like they're practicing their scales. Whereas with someone like Aretha Franklin or Tina Turner, there's a certain unique quality in the timbre and timing of their voices which just sounds more authentic and "from the heart" at least to my ears. Part of it is that the general standard of songwriting was much better in those days, so singers had a much better platform on which to "feel it."
