Recording live drums
Hope I'm in the right spot... LE 8.5 - I'm a noob. I want to record live acoustic drums. I'm using an Allen & Heath ZED-22 hooked to a laptop. I've got nine mics running thru the board, 6 for the drums, 3 for cymbals. I don't understand what I'm supposed to use for each input as my only choices are left & right mic and stereo mic. How do I differentiate each piece?
Let me rephrase that, how does the software know which mic is for each track? Stated another way, I've got a Bass Drum track, a Snare Drum track, 2-High Tom tracks, 2- Low Tom tracks, 2-Overhead Cymbal tracks, and a Hi-Hat track - with only left/right, or stereo mic input, how does the software know which mic is associated with each track? I know this can be done because I've done it in a studio before; however, I was the drummer and have no idea how the sound guy set it up. I've got my own software now, obviously. He was running Cubase, I believe, but this software should do it, too. Many thanks in advance.
