Bapu travels back in time....

THIS is the second rock song I wrote right after I got my first "real" home studio (Tascam 80-8 and M-312 console) after the Tascam Porta One. Circa 1986(ish).

In the last two days I re-recorded my guitar parts. I kept Randy's solos and intro parts. I created new drums. Added Native Instruments' Session and Action Strings. I replaced a Roland Juno EP with Ivory. And I added an additional 4 bar intro.

The orginal vox tracks were pretty bad (noisy). I kept the Organ part and the Kyoto from the Juno.

HERE is the result. Not sure if it's really any better (sonically) but I had fun.

It worked for me.    Cool song.  Both versions sound good.  I think I like the newer one a little better because it seems to have a little more low end.

Should auld acquaintance be forgot--hey, who the hell are you guys?

    Jan,

The original sounds (to me) like it's got a veil of gauze over it. Very dull. It's also about 2-3db lower in vol so that may have something to do with it.

That was all analogue back in the day.

The vox and lead guitars have a very boxy sound to them (printed in the track). The guitars were recorded DI but through a Rockman with an Alesis Delay. The vox were recorded with my AKG 414 but I knew nearly nothing about room noise back then so I believe the boxiness of the vox was mostly from the room. Some of it may have been the Tascam console because they were recorded long before I had the OP amps upgraded. When that board was modded I compared it to a Focusrite first gen stand alone preamp and the quality of the audio was remarkably close.

Sounds like a band that would open for Spinal Tap in 1986

It works for me now.  Defintely better!  That splash cymbal from the 505 was killing me.  Drums sound much better now and everything else is much clearer - more defined.  Good job!
