No Audio, "record" button lags in response time

Hey guys, I bought a V-studio 20 earlier this week, and for some reason I cant get it to record ANYTHING! My computer is an HP Touchsmart 520 pc, 64 bit. I've tried installing, un-installing and re-installing the entire program (editor, hardware, Guitar tracks, the whole shebang) and still no luck.
The problem I'm having is this: When I hit the record button, there is about a 2 second delay before the meter begins moving down the track. Once the meter begins moving down the track, there's no waveform or audio at all! However, I'm still hearing sound through my head phones when I play notes through the guitar/ bass inputs, and through mic 1 as well. I've tried switching inputs, I've set all the knobs correctly, and I've tried to find some information online regaurding this problem, but no one seems to have posted anything. And Roland shows great PR by sending off all their customer service reps to the winter NAMM show this week! What a joke! Anyways if somone out their has ny advice, it would be much appreciated.

    hey,hows it going?

it sounds as if this delay you are having is something us guys call latency.
    it a simple fix.
first of all, make sure you have installed the correct drivers for this unit.
windows 7 64,exc..or what ever it is.
this is critical, dont just plug this thing in thinking it will automatically start working.it needs the supplied drivers on the disk that came with this unit, and even better, cakewalk updates these drivers all the time.right now there is even a windows 8 driver out if that what your OS is.

next thing you need to do is make sure you are running this unit with the correct driver settings.
ASIO is the only one you should be using.
open up preferences and chose this setting under drivers.
the vs20 even has its own driver control panel to fine tune latency.

nor cakewalk or roland is no joke, this is a very professional quiality unit.
but they do expect the user to have some know how about simple driver set up.
this unit comes with 2 PDF manuals that cover this very indepth.

let me know how your making out.
