Interface frustration
Today I moved most of my music from old computer to the new and now trying to open existing projects. Few problems I need help with: 1. My cursor (or what ever you call it- time line? the line that runs over screen during playback) is jumpy. It does not skip- it looks like it jumps over small stones. The audio playing smooth, but cursor is jumping- very little, but it makes me want to see what's behind the screen. Looks like if you were writing on the wooden surface. 2. I closed the window on the left with pro-channel and other things in it- how do I open it? I am looking everywhere for it. 3. Where are the meters? On my old computer it was set to see a meter on the left during playback and recording. Now- no meters. I also remember meters being attached to every track on playback- now I only see them during recording. Thank you.

1. Jumpy cursor is some key that is an old thing to reduce latency caused by video processing. I sometimes bump the key too. I usually fix it by closing Sonar and re-opening. I can discover the key for you if you really need me to. 2. Open it with I. Ctrl+I toggles between Pro Channel and Channel Inspector. I=Inspector. I've never succeeded in hiding the meters.

Sometimes hitting the Scroll Lock (or is it pause/Break?) key (try both) will fix the jumpy playback 'now time' cursor scrolling situation. Hitting the 'I' qwerty key opens / closes the track inspector on the left. HTH, Ed

@OP You will drive your self nuts if you do not take the time to look at all the menus. Lots are changed-everything is there. Took me a while also. But then I decided to read ab it and watch some videos. Lots of stuff is now in the 6 menus right above the MBT lcd readout. Starts with view and ends with V Vocal. That is where I found most of the things I used to know.

If its a jumping time line and the graphics seem to jump as well its because the pause key was pressed. If the time line wont move or scroll it could be that the scroll lock key was pressed. Or it could be due a swipe with the mouse in the time line display. This will stop the now time from scrolling for editing. Auto scroll lock in Clips pane While editing, you can prevent the Clips pane from scrolling horizontally during playback. This allows you to focus on the edit location without worrying that the screen will eventually scroll away from the edit location. When the Left Click Locks Scroll option is enabled (default behavior), the Clips pane will not scroll if you click any object in the Clips pane. When you are done with the edit and want the Clips pane to scroll again during playback, click in the background of the Clips pane to clear auto scroll lock. To enable/disable auto scroll lock Click the Track view Options menu, point to Click Behavior and choose Left Click Locks Scroll on the submenu.

Ok, you, guys are awesome! Found the meters! Now it came alive. Happy. Opened the pro-channel view. Another issue is- I remember- there used to be meters as well- when track active- the track meter would be there, aftertouch for MIDI and meter for Master. Now I do not see it there. It has some table opened with "Property" that covers top portion of that section. I remember struggling with it in X1 and then closing it. Also there are no meters in that section, why? I am not sure I understand what you mean about jumpy cursor and key. I should not have video processing delay. I went on and bought 2 gb gaming video card (AMD Radeon 7850), which gamers felt almost offended that I buy it for audio software, saying- I do not need it. Closing and re-opening Sonar did not fix it. I will try another project, but so far it is jumpy. Thanks a lot.

Ok- opened another project- cursor running better. So- it is project- specific. The project has several soft synths.

Powerful graphics display cards are not just for games. They are used for all sorts of things. Video editing and graphics editing not to mention rendering of scientific data. Cuda enabled cards are also used by many programs to help speed up processing. Gamers live in there own world. Bless them for with their help we have all benefited.

OP, . The pause key makes it jumpy to free up processing power by doing less video processing. It's from the software. Just hit the pause key again, or close and re-open sonar if you forget that it's the pause key that can cause it and you accidentally bump it. . To remove the Clip property window, click the tab at the top of the track inspector. The currently selected option is colored in blue in X2. Click the blue one to return to the standard track inspector with meters for currently selected track and destination bus or output channel.

Ok, thanks- the table is gone. Now- what is "Pause" key? I remember conversation back in the day- someone said something about it, and I was upset, thinking I should not use the Pause button, but it was some key command. I do not do hot keys- I am a mouse person. (It is a female thing, I was told). What is Pause key? Thank you.

The pause key makes that weird skippy video behavior your complained about. hit play and hit the pause key. Then hit pause again to turn it off.

To be very clear we are not talking about the pause button on the X2 transport we are talking about the pause key on a computer keyboard. Some keyboards don't have a dedicated pause key. But it is there with a keyboard FN key combination. You may need to check your keyboard documentation to find the right keys to press.

I found the Play, Pause and FW/BW and they actually work. For a second I thought, when I pressed the Pause key and then Play, it helped it, but then I wanted to see if I can use those buttons, and now it still jumping. I am not sure if it helped it or not first time, but it not helping any more. This jumping reminds me when Sonar was unstable on my old computer. I just invested a lot in to it being stable, so it has to be stable- no more excuses. There is no old drivers, no incompatible hardware- quad core processor, 16 Gb memory- what else does it want from me??? :)

Jumpy cursor meaning now time cursor and meters only updating every second or so? If that's what your talking about it's by design to reduce CPU load and can be toggled on/off using the pause key on your keyboard usually located in the upper right corner. As mentioned by other posters. Not the pause in sonar but on your actual keyboard. You know the one you use to type on the computer. [image] http://nuvolaplayer.fenry...eyboard_pause_key.jpeg[/image]

Oh, that key... I found actual transport on my keyboard that I did not see in years of using this same keyboard. I will try the Pause key you pointed out. Thanks.
