What plugin do you use to generate harmonies for Vocals?

Looking for a good harmony generator to use in X2. Not looking to break the bank though!

Any suggestions?

Can't help you there Ludwig - I do it the old fashioned way of writing out my harmonies on a piano, then get my tame vocalist (wife) to sing the lines I've written.

I often use it in mixing to fatten up or enrich vox (like 5% in the mix), but right now I use some really archaic, non-intelligent stuff.  Thanks for the input so far!

Back in the 90's, I used to use a Digitech Midi Vocalist which generated up to 4/5 harmony parts automatically, but it was never really good enough to include in a song.

It was extremely useful for helping us work out the notes that actually fitted into a given chord structure, so it wasn't completely useless.

Just nearly.

Are not looking to break the bank or are you not looking to break out the wallet? Melodyne is pretty awesome for what you want to do (even the cheaper versions). http://www.fullcompass.com/product/410393.html?utm_source=googleps&utm_medium=shopping&utm_campaign=googleps&gclid=COKXzan_irUCFY1DMgodbBAAHg I would research the different versions to make sure you can get what you need out of it. There are lots of useful videos on the Celemony website and Youtube. I have Melodyne Editor and find it pretty amazing.

You can get Melodyne Essential at Guitar Center for $39.99...then upgrade to Editor at Audio Deluxe for $189...

That's half the price of just buying Editor out of the gate...

I did some beta testing for  Zplane Vielklang 2 (I have an old version which I really don't use anymore).
But the testing was fun and the new product was a great improvement.
It will (with time and practice) produce something you could bury in a mix - but if you listen to it on its own it does not sound great.
All in all if you need harmonies this will work.

If I need a very high harmony that I can't sing, and none of my singing granddaughters are handy, I use V-Vocal to fake it.

I haven't heard any software harmonizer that works well enough to be used prominently in a mix, that said Melodyne Editor IMO does the best job though not automatically.

I used that on this song in parts. Is it as good as having good singers do it? No!!! Was I happy with the mediocre results (based on my poor singing abilities)? Ya.

I have the EFX version. I did not know there was a different version. Hmmmm. Yet another plug for Bapu to buy?

I bought version 1 for like $20 IIRC. Was not that impressed. I upgraded to version 2 awhile back for $39. I'll need to give that one a whirl. If it's a loser I've spent more on dinner for two so I won't feel too bad.

I did all these harmonies from one vocal with Melodyne.
http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=7163926

The original vocal is a little noisy so try to get past that.

Melodyne is the holy grail IMO..

CM has a version of Vielklang 2 for free with the mag this month. Seems it's the LE version, normally costing $89 (http://www.bestservice.de/en/vielklang_le.html) so I'll put this in Deals as well.

I have the AVOX 4 version of the Harmony Engine. It's quite good at inventing harmonies from a single vocal.

Then there's iZotopes Nectar 2 which isn't too foul either.

Although this is a 2 yr. old thread, I'll still throwing in my 2 cents......

Sonnivox's Vocalizer (I only have Version 1) can do harmonies quite easily and the best part is you don't even have to sing in key....or even sing at all.

Like to think that mouldy's fine for pitch correction and Vielklang for harmonies.

Re:What plugin do you use to generate harmonies for Vocals? 2015/07/27 17:35:38 (permalink)
Hmm ... I use Melodyne to do that. To get the best results use an over dub (double or triple takes) for the harmony parts not the original. It sounds a lot more natural using a vocal take that is sung specifically to fatten a vocal line. Also, lessen the modulation a bit. Good back up harmonies are always sang a little blander than the lead. But, that's a matter of taste.

I picked up up Melda MMultibandHarmonizer on a sale. It has some interesting pitch tricks up it's sleeve.
