Steinberg UR824 and SONAR

I've been using an RME Babyface for the last year or two as I haven't needed to record more than two inputs at once. I like the sound quality and features quite a bit; however, I am going to be doing a session with a full band (2 guitars, bass, drums, vocals) in the near future and need more preamps/inputs. I've scoured a lot of interface reviews and forums threads and have decided to go with Steinberg's UR824, which seems to be nearly universally liked for an interface in it's price range.

The order's been placed, so perhaps this thread's a day late, but I'm wondering if anybody here has experience with this interface and if they can offer any feedback. Two things I'm curious about, specifically: Does it play well with Sonar and if you've used both the Babyface and the UR824, how would compare the quality of their preamps/converters?

General feedback about the unit is also welcome. Thanks.

Don't have the ur824 but the mr816x.  I'm guessing their very close cousins.  As far as compatability with Sonar, never had one problem that came back to my mr816x. Preamps and Converters? Think they sound fine, but I do have an outboard Presonus preamp strip that does sound better.  The UI for the mr816x if very good and easy to use.

Thanks, Randy. I appreciate the feedback. Yeah, I contemplated getting the MR816 for the lower latency, but ultimately decided to go with the UR824, so that I have the option to use it mobiley with my laptop, which doesn't have firewire.

It arrived yesterday and I had the chance to test it out a little last night. I like the sound quality (though the preamps seem to be a little noisier than the Babyface) and Direct Monitoring should negate the latency issue - at least for miced sources. I haven't tried it out using a midi controller on any soft synths yet. Hopefully the latency there won't make it unusable. Either way, I'll probably hold on to the Babyface and can always revert to that in those instances if necessary.

    Anyway, thanks again.
