Theorectically, this would work, right?

Hey everyone, I've used Sonar Producer for many years. All of my older projects are in Sonar. More recently, I moved to a Macbook Pro Retina to use Logic... I boot camped the laptop to be able to access older Sonar projects incase they needed to be opened for tracking out and selling.

I installed Sonar and all my other programs and plugins but never really checked to make sure everything ran smoothly... I just started my new projects in Logic, knowing if i ever ran into trouble I could just use my old rig to get the job done.

My dilemma is, I got an offer for my old rig, which was a boot camped iMac. I was planning on keeping it because I know it would open my old projects without any new computer hiccups and I wouldn't have to worry about the headaches of trying to open an older Sonar project on the Macbook Pro and it not working correctly.. etc, etc.

So my question is, if everything that was installed on the imac is installed on the macbook, would it play old projects flawlessly. Or is it a recipe for troubleshooting and a lot of headache? I'd appreciate your honest opinion.

I don't have to sell the iMac but an extra $2500 never hurts.

Thanks in advance!

Try it and see for yourself. Every DAW is different, even if there the same.

This is a question that really no one can answer without going onto your system and playing all your old projects on it.

I will be getting into the iMac tomorrow to open up old projects all day... just figured I'd ask.

The first thing that threw me off the first time I opened an old project on the Macbook was the mix was off, badly.

    Any reason for this?

If any plugins are missing, it will obviously affect your mix... As far as volume/pan they should be the same... I take it you are using the same interface, monitors and room?

Everything is identical. Same plugs, interface and room.

If someone offered me 2.5 grand for an old unused computer, I would put a bow ribbon on it for them. Just my $0.02.

Not if you can't properly open old projects worth well over 2.5k each...

No worries. Bad a few hiccups but everything seems to open perfectly.
