out of memory
What in the world is going on with this error? OK I started a new project today. It is a lullaby for two guitars (AL Dimeola tune called Bianca's midnight Lullaby) and nothing else. I recorded one guitar and then went on to record the other. It wasn't quite right so I wanted to import the original into the project to use as reference. When I went to import this 4MB mp3 I got an error notice that I was "out of memory". No Chance...I have 8 gigs and never have these issues on even 45 or so track projects.I have adjusted the amount in the *.ini file to 150 from 0 but the error comes back. This is a joke problem, I fear. hehe Thanks for any ones help

Hi - there was an earlier thread from some time ago, talking about this problem, and for that particular user, it was due to some tags in that MP3 file that were not supported by Sonar at that time. Here is the excerpt from that thread: "The problem turned out to be that SONAR (as with Windows Explorer, Windows Media Player and many other applications) does not yet support ID3v2.4 tags, which is what Foobar2000 writes by default. ID3v2.3 tags are OK. wormser's workaround was to go into the advanced preferences for Foobar and uncheck the "use padding" option, which actually does more than suppress string padding. It effectively causes Foobar to write ID3v2.3 tags. " Wherever you got your MP3 file from, perhaps doing a conversion to another format then back to MP3 would eliminate the issue. Give that a shot - there are lots of freeware file converters out there - I use the conversion capabilities of YTD Downloader (I use it to download clips from YouTube and convert them to MP3 files). I hope that helps, Bob Bone

Hey Bob thanks very much. I had no idea about this compatibility issue and the "out of memory" indicator. I am certain that my audio editor (Sony Soundforge Studio)will be able to handle this without issue. Thanks so much for your help. Saved me a bunch of time. Cheers!!!!!

Glad Bob sorted that one for you. He's one of the most helpful people on here. I just wanted to say that I love that tune (I'm a big Al DiMeola fan). I look forward to maybe hearing your version sometime.

The only Al DiMeola I've ever heard of was a reference to him by Zappa on the closing song from Tinseltown Rebellion

Just to be clear : its not a Sonar error, its a limitation of WMP/Windows of which Sonar uses the "codec/engine, " call it what you will. WMP can deal with v2.3 of the mp3 tagging system, but not v2.4 Simply re-tagging the mp3 in v2.3 will cure the issue. Cheers, Jerry

The topic of "out of memory" should become a sticky on the forum. It seems to crop up about once a month and the forum search feature isn't all that great.

Either way Cake should trap the error and try to give a more meaningful error message.
