Can't get RXP to load despite using Rex shared library 1.54 everywhere!

Hi,

I know this general topic is posted many times on this forum but please bear with me!

Just like many other users I can't get RXP to load any files (WAV. RX2 or anything). After reading through a few posts on the forum it looked like I simply needed to get the 1.54 version of the Rex shared library from Propellerheads website and everything would be fine.
However, it still doesn't work. This is what I did:

-Downloaded the dll from the website
-Deleted the file from Windows\System 32 before running the exe (checked before deleting and it was 1.6.0.4096
-Deleted all other instances of the dll (e.g in beatscape & RXP folder).
-Ran the exe
-Verified it was now version 1.54
- Tried RXP in Sonar and still no luck
- Tried adding the 1.54 dll to Cakewalk\Shared DXI\RXP folder (Still no luck)
- Tried removing from system32 to leave only the SharedDXI\RXP file (Still no luck)

And generally messed around with different versions in different places but all to no avail!!
ITS DRIVING ME NUTS!!!!

I've also emailed cakewalk tech support TWICE but never had more than the automated response (Yes I checked my junk folder!) and being in the UK don't want to call the states at international rates.

If anyone has any suggestions on how I could fix this issue and get one with using RXP I would be incredibly grateful!

Thanks in advance

Ben

Ok, looks like this has stumped everyone :(

Let me change my question then. Does anyone have any idea how I can get Cakewalk to respond to my tech support email?

Can't believe that a registered user who has spent over £500 on Cakewalk software can't get a answer to a support email!

Has anyone got any experience of calling the tech line? How long do they keep you on hold for, are they any good at resolving issues? I don't want to run up a huge phone bill calling from the UK only for them not to be able to fix the problem!

The few times I have called tech support, the issues were simple (ex. 64bit mp3 unlock). Wait time was never more than a minute or two.

Thanks for the info, think I will try calling them this week. If I get a solution to my issue I'll post here as I reckon there are others who can't get RXP working. Or maybe I should just use Beatscape instead...

I just tried it and it works for me. I'm using the version that came with Sonar.

Did you run a VST scan?

Yeh, I have re-scanned for VST's but because RXP is a DXI I don't think it re-scans it anyway. However just to make sure I added the folder where the RXP dll is to the VST list and re-scanned but still I can't get it to load any files at all. RXP loads fine itself but selecting a file in the browser does nothing...

I would imagine no one can help because we have no idea what version of SONAR you are working with. The SONAR X series ships RXP as a VST not as a DXi. At least the version on my machine which has both 64bit SONAR Producer X1d and X2a has only a VST version of RXP installed. There is nothing in the "Shared DXi" folder related to RXP. I just played around with it for about 5 minutes using a variety of loops included with X2, the GUI was a little funky but the synth played OK. You might want to clean up all your previous attempts at adding a custom version of RXP from the registry and perform an advanced install of whatever version of SONAR you are using to get the Cakewalk version of the RXP VST installed again.

Apologies for not giving you my environment details, I am using X1d Producer, 32 bit, Windows 7.
I upgraded from 8.5, I wonder if that is why my RXP is still using the Shared DXI? It's a lead...
I'll have a look around and see if I can see a VST version.

That sounds very likely. You might want to take a look in the Plugin Manager and see what is going on. If you see both DXi and VST, try disabling the DXi version. If you do not see the VST version, you might try an advanced install of X1 to get it. It will likely cause issues with older projects that rely on the DXi version though.

RXP on my system is not a DXi, its a VST. If you're using the .DLL, then that means you're using the VST version. DXis are usually .AX files and need to be installed, not scanned.

I am not sure that you can rely on the extension telling you very much. I only have the SONAR 64bit X series installed. Most of the DX stuff on my machine are DLLs, for example everything in the "Shared Dxi" and most everything in the "Shared Plugins."

Use the VST version. Many or most DXis don't work in 64-bit Sonar.

OK, finally cracked it! Thanks everyone for pointing me in the right direction.

It was nothing to do with the version of REX shared library at all, i simply reinstalled RXP (and PSYN II which had somehow lost its presets) via the advanced install function and it worked.  It was me being a bit dumb because it does clearly say on the release notes for X1 that if you are upgrading from a previous version of Sonar you may need to re-install some plugins and it seems the DXI's are the ones most most affected.

Reinstalling the plugins wasn't as easy as it should have been though as I have X1 Expanded and to do the advanced install had to go back to my X1 disc which has a different serial number to the expanded update, cue all sorts of hassles with serial numbers and having to modify the registry to get the right one displaying in Sonar!

Anyway, all is working now so many thanks for your time and advice.

That is great, glad you got it sorted out. Yeah, X1d Producer Expanded has to be the most convoluted install of SONAR yet.
