Sonar seems to have a serious problem with Guitar Rig effects

I have an ongoing problem with a GR-hosted Native Instruments compressor on the master bus, in that it's silent whenever I first load the project. I have to "kick start" it by clicking on a preset. I'm fairly used to doing that now. I know it must be a Sonar problem because I used the same compressor in my Pro Tools projects without ever having a problem.

I've also experienced problems with a Reflektor reverb effect (again hosted in GR) on my reverb bus. That time, the project would always load with the wet/dry knob turned all the way to dry, and everything panned hard left.

Now a project that makes some extensive use of Guitar Rig effects chains has suddenly decided to start loading with every single knob turned all the way to the left. On the chain I'm looking at now, that's 24 knobs, which I had so carefully set up last night, turned all the way down. I'm back to square one. On the couple of effects on which I'd used a preset, the preset is loaded (i.e. showing in the preset window) but still all the controls are set to zero. It's really annoying. I just have no confidence with Sonar and Guitar Rig effects any more.

I'm guessing this is a NI/Sonar compatibility issue because like I say I had none of these problems with Guitar Rig in Pro Tools.

I suggest its more likely to be a guitar rig issue even though it may work in pro tools. Latest patches for your plugins (like guitar rig)? Rescanned your plugins recently? Latest drivers and firmware for M-Audio? (Always a good idea, drivers interact with more functionality than most people think).

    Cheers.

Yeah I have the latest M-Audio drivers so I don't think it's that. I do have a Guitar Rig update to download however, so let's hope that does something!

    Hey Sharke,

Log into GRs site and run an update check on your version of Guitar Rig

If I remember correctly, bring it up by its individual icon (standalone) on the desk top and go in that way to check for updates

I'm doing it through the NI Service Center - not sure if that comes with Guitar Rig but it was part of Komplete. There's some other updates there too for FM8, Massive, Reaktor, Absynth etc.

NI Service Center comes with just about everything NI, Guitar Rig included.

Hi, sharke. I was gonna say I hadn't used GR in X2 yet because TH2 is my new darling for guitar but realized I had used it for my bass tracks on Beepster Creep. No problems... but I only used the BassPro sim and ControlRoomPro without any other NI effects.

Keep us posted if the update fixes your problem (or not). Not sure if I'm completely up to date with GR at the moment.

    Cheers.

    Yeh,

Thats the one I was thinking of-NI Service Center

I know when I recently did a complete fresh install of Windows7 and X1, I opened up NI through the GR program (not X1) and it went in, found updates and let me take care of it from their.

I wouldnt think that any other program outside of that would effect GRs updates as long as you go in thru you NI account.

Im curious to see what it comes up with

I use Guitar Rig 4 extensively and have never seen that problem. Fyi ... I've tried Guitar Rig 4 in other DAW's and it's a night and day difference in the sound quality. Can't explain why, it just is. Same with SD3.

This sounds similar to a problem I encountered the other day.

I reset all the tracks on an old project because I wanted to start from scratch using the Console Emulation.

I deleted all the VST's, reset all the volume and 'Gain' controls to '0'. Then I started remixing by setting up my Gain's. Then I started adding VST's and adjusting things and suddenly all of the 'Gain' settings maxed out. It was like someone did a quick group on them and moved the sliders all the way to the right.

I sent someone a PM about it several days ago asking if they ever saw anything like it ... so you know I'm not making this up. Heh!

Well I updated everything. So far so good, I just opened a project and the compressor was working on the master bus straight off the bat, however to be fair it did work occasionally anyway so this is inconclusive. First time I opened the project Sonar crashed though, I had to open it again.

I've also had trouble with some Reaktor synths that don't seem to save some of their settings with the project. For instance I have a groove box on this project in which I've tweaked a preset. One of the tweaks was moving the global time unit from 1/16 notes to 1/32, and I still have to go in and set that every time I open the project. Really annoying.

Well everything seems OK so far. I haven't experienced the silent GR compressor or the "all dials turned off" effect yet, but then again I've only opened a project a couple of times tonight. We will see how things go....
