REMIX New Instrumental On the Run
That's how I've felt lately... On the Run... Hence the name of this tune. I've been so busy lately with wrapping up for retirement and finding assissted living for me old mother, and fortunately we were able to find her a lovely place to live, really good fortune. Things will get a lot better and lot more free for me in 8 weeks.. But.... I did squeak out this little diddy that had been bouncing around in my head... No time for lyrics right now so an instrumental gave me a little creative relief. I remixed the drums down a bit, the crashes a bit more... pulled the piano down in the chorus sections. Enjoy I hope. Great playing Daryl. Personally, I thought the drums were a tiny bit too busy, but that's just my opinion. Otherwise, I really liked the vibe. Very jazzy with a touch of Pat Metheny. Regards

I gotta agree with dan. They need to be tamed a bit. They are not bad, but its like you have a manic drummer with an otherwise layed back band. The intro inparticular seemed more chaotic than musical to my ear. As always, the guitar is sublime. I think this is a killer song otherwise.

I'm not sure that I agree with the comments about the drums. Where I have any issues with the song is that in the parts where there is a lot going on, the piano sounds become indistinct to the point where they sound more like background noise than piano. I'm not sure if it would sound better to me if the piano was boosted more in these areas or side-chained against the guitar to selectively reduce it. Possibly less reverb on the piano when things get busy? Glen

The drums are fine, they are just too loud, especially the crashes. The King Of Tone is in residence, children: sit down and take heed from the Master. I am gonna have to do a tune with you, D.

Luke - Herb - James, Frank, Philz, Mark - Thank you, it's guitar fun! Lynn - That's a high compliment, to old guitar slinger, tone is something you always aspire too, glad to know I'm on the right track. Thanks! Dan, Thank you. My drums are always too busy, or too dull, or too loud or too soft. It's my hallmark and curse of my ears that I stuggle with drum sounds and it makes mixing them tough. Glad you like the song! Shad - I expect you're right, but ironically I really like the drum track, it is busy but it's called on the run. Glad you liked the song and the guitar! Thank you. Glen - That sounds like good information I can put to use. Mixing is hard for me and I need this kind of feedback. When I can hear any track well, except the lead in the center, it's generally too loud. Thanks for the careful listen. In addition to the piano there is a triple guitar harmony on the chorus lines, could that be what's competing with the piano? Robert - Thanks! Mark - Wow, I will pay you that $50, thanks for saying you liked my durms! Frank told my that one time too, now it's happend twice! Thanks so much, glad you enjoyed it. YoYo Man - I would do a tune with you any day if only to hear myself in pro class mix. Thank you for the kind words. I like to think I have my own tone. I hear a lot of tones that I really like, but a lot of them are tones driven by combinations of wonderful effects or just really special sweet amps and I never seem to be able to copy a lot of those tones well with my equipment. So my tone comes largely, as does most of eveyones, from my fingers, that with some good EL34 tube tone, although I find my tone varies more betwen guitars than it does various amps or different tubes. After all these years I still find it amazing when 2 different guitarist have completley different tone using the exact same guitar and signal chain. It's pursuit that never ends... of course.. we don't want it to either. Thanks for the mix suggestions... my ears are certainly getting worse with each passing year but I'm learning with the help I get here to compensate for much it. This site is such a great resource and one of the best attend forums I've seen for anything.

Hey Daryl, This is one of my favorites by you! Great playing/tone, as always. Really nice piano playing, too. Seems like not too long ago you were saying that you didn't understand drum programming...well, it seems like you've gotten past that...the drums sound great, man. Finally, no Ricky Nelson comparison on this one

Scott - The synth is Dim Pro and the bass is my Fender Jazz bass. Gary - I looked at Ez drummer per your suggestion, but as I researched it the more it seemed like I should just go for Superior Drummer, maybe it was more upgrade than I can make use of, but so far it's a lot of fun and because it creates midi notes it's a much better learning tool. Even if I construct a good drum track from loops, I can't learn anything from it. SD allows me to visulalize it and that's a big help. I'm glad I don't aways sound like Ricky Nelson... although I wish I really did. Dan - THANK YOU for coming back and giving me some comparison feed back. I brought the crashes down 10% and then brought the whole track down 5db. With my bad ears, it's hard for me to mix the drums, if I can hear the cymbals... they are too loud for people that can hear. Blipp - Glad you found it fun. Thanks!

I really liked it! My heart is always towards instrumentals. The background muted guitar add a nice dimension to the track. Very nice guitar tone and playing.
Sorry for being late but I still have lots to catch up.
