New original country rock - Lu McBain
Here's an old song that I did 4 or 5 years back. Just remixed using with Sonar X2. I suppose the genre would be old fashioned or rock country. It's about a girl I wanted in a lusty manner. Would appreciate any input you have to offer. Thanks. http://soundcloud.com/sparkplugjohnny/lu-mcbain-1

I like how it has an old blues feel but keeps that country and western vibe. Great job!!!

Whoa, Chas, LOVED that song. As one songwriter to another, I say you have written one seriously great tune there. Outstandingly witty lyrics. Vocals and performance are excellent too. If you want some input, I have some with 2 caveats: 1. I was listening on pc speakers, so not the worlds most accurate reproduction, and 2. I am a sucker for the banjo. With those in mind, here we go- The lead guitar, while well played, tone wise feels to me to be kinda' splashing all over the other instruments and dominating them at points. Maybe this is just a taste thing, as I would have preferred a cleaner tone with just a tinge of drive. It feels like a lot of instruments are all competing for space in the mid range at some points and maybe a touch of EQ is needed to better define them. Again, this could be a product of my listening environment. Worth mentioning that there are many with far better ears and equipment than mine on this forum, and maybe you'll be fortunate enough to get more astute or specific comments from them. All this said, I LOVED this song! Great stuff!

Well you sure did capture the country feel on this one. You tell a great story, and the performance and production are great. It has a real truckers roadhouse feel to it. Great number Chas.

Philz, thanks for listening and your comments. I always like criticism and at times you don't get an honest appraisal on forums because folks are just too nice. :-) (me included). I always hope the ones that do give you an objective opinion will do so. Sometimes they do, sometimes not. I was concerned that I had the instruments too far apart. They seemed alone to me at times. Never seemed to mesh together to me. Also, I thought I had the organ too loud in places. Will revisit. Freddy, thanks a lot for your comments and for listening. Glad you liked it.

Great tune Chas. Somethin's not right with the timing though. I think mainly from what I heard, the vocs were off time. It's almost like you nudged them for some reason. Best part of the tune to me were the lyrics.

Warrenlee, thanks for listening. Glad you liked it. Daryl, we may have played some of the same clubs. Played a bunch of them in TX. Thanks for listening and your comments. timidi, the timing may be the guitar. In another forum a guy had pointed out the guitar fills in a couple of places. I had played that way intentionally in one instance in the name of "feeling." Maybe it isn't coming across that way? Thought I had cleared the other instance up. Will give it another look. Haven't moved the vocal in any manner. To me the vocal is OK, timing wise. Thanks for listening and your comments.

I love the song, Chas, and your performance was right on, though, the guitar tone was a little too distorted for my taste. The lyrics are clever and witty, and your voice was perfect. Well done.

Well performed. The lead vox is a tad dry for my taste, but that is just a taste thing. The licks on the right (piano) seem a tad to loud to me. Other than those teeny tiny nits, great song. Fun romp.

Lynn, thanks for listening. Glad you like the song. Bapu, thanks for listening and your comments. I used an Izotope Nectar preset on the vocal. Just used what they had. Guitarhacker, Thanks a lot. I've been in (and played in) many of those smoky hole in the wall joints.

You have a lot of personality and presence that comes across well in this song. I think its great how you just seem to let it out so freely. I was going to comment on the structure a bit, but by the end, I decided it was fine. The mix has some bad phasing issues on the vocals.. it sounds like low bit rate mp3 compression squak. The rest of the mix is not how I would mix it, but at the same time, seems to work well with the song, so no comment there either.

foxwolfen, thanks for listening and your comments. Definitely like your comments on how the vocal is sung. Don't really understand your comments on the phasing issue of the vocals. Not studio quality, I'll admit, but there's no issues there AFAIC. But will take a look at it again. Always like to hear how others view my song.

Fun song. I like how the background vocals sound on this song, though in the bridge, all the voices seemed to be too much. Also, I think someone said something about the timing, and I would agree. There are lots of places through out with some parts seem to come in behind the beat. Overall, the mix is good and the sound is well-suited to the genre.
