Three New Dubstep Tracks

I decided to try my hand at some dubstep. I'm not very good at it, I think I'll leave it alone for a while (or PRACTICE!), but how are these ? (for American dubstep, that is :D )

I'm not really sure what 'dubstep' is, although I hear that the snare is on the '3' as in reggae or ska. Interesting tracks, but not something I could listen to for long. The 2nd track had a nice ambient style breakdown though.

#1, and #2 are a good start. #3, mostly no. The one thing to remember about dubstep is that it is first and foremost for dance, not just screaming skrillex synths. While it might look like the dancer is having an epileptic fit, he or she is using the syncopations to smoothly transit from one move to the next. The music must aid that, not break it. It is not easy nailing this genre, so my hat is off to you for trying, and you are pretty close.

I was expecting some higher energy dance style tracks..... I'm no expert on dubstep.... but that's what I've though it was. This didn't quite seem to nail that goal.

Perhaps...as a suggestion.... head over to the TAXI forum as there seems to be a few folks there who write and compose this genre .... get some tips and pointers and ask them questions..... That genre is popular in film & tv right now so there tends to be some listing for it and people are writing for those listings.... check it out.

I think they are pretty cool. #1 Reminds of Radiohead Kid A. #2 Song is kind of funny. Nice transition around 1:00 #3 I like this one the best. It is quirky and unexpected.

Though I enjoyed each song for different reasons, the overall impact is jarring.  I like texture, and you filled the bill in this regard.  Yet, the sounds were harsh and the beat was a bit awkward for me.  Nevertheless, you're not short on imagination, and I think we'll be hearing great things from you in the future.

    All the best,

Although electronica is my main genre, i must confess i have'nt listen to much dubstep. I've like some i've listened to, but it seems to be one of those genre's that has too many cliches and rules that you have to follow and i'm not keen on that idea.

That said, your tracks have potential, but you have a long, long way to go compared to some of the dubstep i've heard on forums, but everyone has to start somewhere.

I would suggest you listen to as much dubstep posted on other forums to get an idea of the standard you need to aim for.

I think mixing and production are the the main areas you need to refine your craft, but that will come with experience and practice.

Overall then, a good start. Keep at it and things will begin to come together.
