Look here kiddies ...

... this is what a 40 track truncated auto-save project file looks like.

*bub runs wildly through the front yard giggling hysterically while flailing his arms wildly as if he's ballroom dancing with an invisible partner.*

Hazaa!

Eureka!

Chim Chim Cheery!

Hi diddly dough!

And a good time was had by all.

Oh the humanity.

LOL!

Have you tried taking the case apart to make sure your ram is seated properly?

Check you bios too and preferably re-install the OS and all your drivers after making sure you have all that latest ones.

This will be an easy fix if we go through it methodically, it won't be a Sonar issue because it's working fine for me, it must be your system.

If that doesn't work try a new DAW machine specifically built for the job, you'll be back up and running in no time.

I knew I should have saved the project and went to bed when my wife did.

I'd be having sweet dreams right now of the awesome job I did with V-vocal that I wasn't gonna tell you guys about when I posted my tune in the songs forum.

    It was gonna be great.

I spent so much time flipping between the 'Pitch' and 'Formant' screen, thinking all the while how smooth it was working, and was even considering posting a nice thread about how much better V-vocal seems to be working.

It's all my fault. I should have been Ctrl-S'ing. Having 5 Auto-Save's isn't enough. I should have been thinking 6 steps ahead.

    DEER PARK THAT'S GOOD WATER!

    HALLELUJAH!

    I just did that!

I do that before every project!

That's why it takes me so long to get anything done.

I dock my control bar at the bottom of the screen. I see you have it docked at the top. There's your problem.

Hey, it's as good a solution as anyone's likely to come up with.

Bub, you're certainly a good sport... I don't know how you do it but thanks. You might not realize it but a post like this is really comforting to me. It is proof positive that it isn't just me. I'm curious though... did you have a moment where, had you been holding a hammer, you would have beaten your computer to bits?

Oh no ... it's not just you.

There's been a couple of times I seriously thought about taking my DAW outside and shooting it with my 50 cal cap and ball rifle, and posting a pic.

Actually, X2a isn't working all that bad now that I'm familiar with it's quirks. I can dance around them and be relatively productive. Well, as productive as a guy can be just sitting here having fun, it's not like I do this for a living.

I was mistaken about Auto-Save not working. I assumed that it saved the different version's with the .cwp extension, but it doesn't. That's why when I tried to load an older version, they were invisible ... Sonar was looking for a particular file extension that wasn't there. And since the version of Auto-Save that I could see was corrupted, I couldn't use the 'Revert' command, so I had to go hunt for them manually. For those who don't know, the 'Revert' command under 'File' is for when you use Auto-Save Versioning. You can click on Revert and it shows you a list of files you can go back to.

The manual says the versions are stored in Temp files, so I went in to my Projects folder looking for some kind of 'Temp' folder and that's when I saw the files there with no extension. So I really didn't lose hardly any work seeing how I have Auto-Save set to save every 60 seconds. I lost 2 small edits.

I should start a thread upstairs about Auto-Save and how it works in depth. It really saved my butt this time. I hadn't saved the original project file in 5 hours according to the time stamp. I always forget, that's why it's good to have this Auto-Save setting.

The most disconcerting part is finding out nothing really went wrong after you had everything go wrong and there was no one there to tell you nothing went wrong.

I just hate it when that happens.... I, too, have very little hair left after Sonar. But I keep going back again and again and again. (I get a hair transplant every so often just so I can pull it all out again)

Glad to hear you sorted it out. And, YES, do a write-up on it upstairs, as I am NOW in the habbit of hitting ctrl+s after every major edit.

Another thing. If you had executed your DAW you would have never found out thees leetle seecret.

I can't tell you how many times I've regretted it. I used to be afraid of it until I understood how it works. But I keep forgetting to hit Ctrl-S. I have this darn mental block on it.

I'm going to write up an in depth thread on it and post upstairs tomorrow.

'Technically' something did go wrong. The Auto-Save project did get corrupted and would not allow me to use the 'Revert' command. If I hadn't have gone to the Project Folder, I never would have found those files without extensions. :)
