One last time.
What sound? What are you talking about? We need to get the terminology down first.
You asked what a sample was in another thread. A sample is a piece recording. It can be a single sound, like a kick or a moog note, or a whole bar of kick and snare, or a complete rhythm section doing 4 bars. These are all samples. In SONAR you can "import" a sample exampled above and insert it in the timeline. FLS's timeline used to be the plasma-sytle view tho it might have changed. SONAR (and most linear DAWs) have tracks, running left to right, that shows audio or midi notes as they appear in time. You can import a single kick note and use copy and paste to put as many wherever you like. It will even line them up for you. So yes, SONAR X2 Essentials will get the sounds in right using that method.
A sampler is a digital synth (either hard or software) that imports that sample (say, a kick) and allows you to play it from a keyboard. In SONAR and FLS you can record those notes you play, or you can use a step sequencer to write those same notes. As I recall FLS (I haven't really used it in years) defaults to a drum sampling machine. The program comes up, and when you click on a pad it fires the sampler which plays the kick. It is all set up from the beginning. SONAR defaults to midi and audio realtime recording. To use a sampler like Session Drummer you have to insert it into a project. You then have to open the step sequencer, which looks a lot like FLS main page. You can then click a pad just like FLS. So yes, SONAR will get the sounds right, tho it takes a few extra steps to get going. But you can save that project or template so you only have to do it once.
If you want to use your hiphop samples in Session drummer you have to change the samples assigned to pads. I havent done it, but it should be fairly straight forward. drag and drop, I think. So yes, Session drummer can get the sounds in right.
If you just want to do beats it is hard to beat FLS. That is what it is designed for. If you want to record an acoustic signal - say, like vocals, you have to go through hoops for that. It can be done, but it is not the best tool for that job. Sonar or any linear (not step sequencer-based) recorder will do that job better.
Sonar will do what you want, tho it won't do beats as easily out of the box as FLS. another option is to rewire FLS into SONAR, giving you the best of both worlds.
