Intel Core Duo P8700 2.53Ghz
Hi This is a specific question. Is anybody using an Intel Core Duo P8700 2.53 Ghz sucessfully with X2 64 bit? (Win 7). Background - Digging out an old Dell Latitude E6500, might give it a whirl. (Please no need to talk about other hardware specs, or Cakes recommendations, got that base covered, I'm after actual experiences with people who have this chip - thanks). Thanks Alex

Not the chip you want, but I'm pretty close, and X2 works fine: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3.00 GHz X2 seems to be a little lighter load than X1 was, but that's only intuitive. Coincidentally, I just installed Sibelius 7 last week. That was the first software I've encountered that listed Core 2 Duo as the minimum hardware requirement. Probably time for me to build another PC.

I used Sonar 8.53 on a P8600 2,4 GHz (4 Go Ram, Vista 32) without any problem. Hope it could help (but afraid it doesn't)...

Again - not an exact match I am still running an Intel Core 2 Duo E7400 @2.79GHz with Windows 7 64bit , Sonar X2a and 8 Gigs of RAM It still does the job quite well. I don't have any of the crazy problems I've been reading about that some folks are having - but I don't do tons and tons of softsynths either.

I was using a Duo Core 3.1Ghz machine, with 1333Mhz buss and 8 Gig RAM. I had issues with X1 dropping out and the CPU spiking to 100% at times, depending on the number of plug-ins. With 20 channels and 2-3 plug-ins each, I started having major drop-outs. Moved to a Quad Core, 8-thread CPU and the only time I have drop-outs is switching screensets. I think just adding buffers, you should be ok.

It's not an exact match, but I'm using an Intel i5 Quad Core with 4GB RAM. Works fine here. No problems at all.

P8700 2.53 Ghz I think you're being a bit too specific on the CPU, but it's not really important to be so. the thing here is to compare the CPU with models of the same batch .. Core2duo P8700 2.53ghz is good enough for Sonar for sure.. These are among the last batch of Core2duo IIRC, they run at 1066mhz of FSB ... Don't be fooled by the intended, marketed obsolescence of Intel chips.. even though these are 5 years old (launched in 2008), Look at the benchmarks, these chips run as fast as the lowest Core I3 chips. http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_lookup.php?cpu=Intel+Core2+Duo+P8700+%40+2.53GHz Of course these are not fast machines by today's standards, don't expect to run 8 instances of Omnisphere or Kontakt on that.. but it should be able to do most basic projects just fine... Afterall, we used to make albums on Pentium4 ... The only problem I'd expect, is the amount of RAM ... lucky for you, you probably have DDR3 Sodimm in there, so it makes it worthwhile to upgrade RAM, as older DDR2 RAM is really getting expensive. I hope that helps you a bit. Cheers ! V

Not the exact chip/CPU here either, but I used X1 Pro on a laptop with a Core 2 Duo T7500 (2.2 GHz(?)) CPU - i.e. less powerful than the P8700. Tweaked Vista a bit, swapped the C-drive for a faster one & could run roughly 20-30 tracks depending on number unfrozen of plugs & latency-settings.
Windows 10 (LTSB) - i7 8700 - ASUS GTX1060 -16 GB Corsair Vengeance - Samsung SSD´s - Seagate HD´s - RME FF400 - & too many geetars & amps

Not sure how close the CPU match I've got a system using - Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo T7500 (2.2GHz/4MB L2Cache) Is it adequate for Sonar X2? Its like using a '73 VW Bus for a furniture moving business - if that's what you got you make it work.
