What do you think of Corel VideoStudio ?

I've downloaded the trial - VideoStudio can access my Logitech HD webcam and it can record at the same time when X2 is recording audio. All basic editing tool is there, such as replacing audio and video in video editing.

I'm unable to record with the default Logitech software, causing X2 hiccups. I've also tried some common freeware (I think it's called CamStudio), but the video/audio goes out of sync despite trying some recommended setting.
But the selling price is confusing .. both the Pro and Ultimate version sold at the same USD 59.99.

What is your choice of webcam recording software (including basic editing tools), around that price ?

Cheers!

Albert

Have you tried CyberLink PowerDirector? You can download a free trial. Their cheapest version is presently on sale for $55.

This is a good question  because I am trying to decide between PowerDirector 11 or Sony Vegas. The versions I'm looking at are priced:
    Vegas $129
Power Director $103 (on sale right now)

I was leaning towards the Power Director because I will already have my audio finished in Sonar so I'm thinking that I will only need to import it into PD and then concentrate on the video aspect.

However I see a lot of folks use Vegas and I think that vegas focuses a lot more on the audio.....but I could be wrong....

I could be swayed either way.......I just want something that works well.............

    What do you think?

I got it a part of a promo as I use Corel's PSP. Works pretty well for screenshot & small / quick projects.
I'll also import finished projects into Vegas for further editing or to use larger projects.

IIRC Corel or their video line was recently bought by AVID.

no experience wit hthe corel product but there are several lowcost vide oediting programs that will work for wha tyou are trying to do.  The light versions of Vegas will get the job done.  You can record the audio and video in there at the same time

I've been using PowerDirector since version 9 and I'm very happy with it. My previous video editor was Ulead Media Studio Pro, which doesn't work in Windows 7, forcing me to upgrade. I agonized for days researching which program would suit me best. I finally decided on PowerDirector because at the time it was the only video editor coded for 64-bit and it had very good reviews across the board.

I'm not familiar with the other editors out there these days and I haven't used PowerDirector to it's full potential yet, but it does what I want and it's extremely intuitive. If you're familiar with video editing at all, you will rarely have to look at the manual or google a problem.

I use Pinnacle Studio 14 which is OK.  Known to be a tad buggy and crashes every now and then.  Has some neat, but basic editing...around $100 I think.  I think there are newer versions but internet reviews convinced me upgrading wasn't necessary..so I don't know version is available now as well.

I always do my audio in Sonar and bounce it in to the separate audio track in Pinnicle and you can drag it around into sync.

I also end up "bouncing" an amount with videos with a lot of FX, to cut down on processing...kinda the "freeze" track syndrome with some generation lose that is acceptable.

During my trial, I found Corel responded to editing with a tad of delay after clicking on it's options. But it's stable, no crash.

It's resource friendly too - while Corel record the video and audio (via the webcam mic), I can record properly into X2 with proper mic / instrument line in - so I can further do mixing.

I'll edit the video in Corel later and replace the webcam audio with the proper X2 mix - with the help of wave form shape to align the audio in place before removing the webcam mic audio. I can further repeat this for video in video editing too - I won't get pin point accuracy, but the hand alignment is good enough - no noticeable out of sync.

Is the the correct way to do video-in-video editing ? (beginning to sound like this should go to Technique forum already..)

Thanks for all the suggestion, I had a look at PowerDirector. It seems it can't do recording with webcam ?

I'll check out Vegas too, as it can record both video / audio.

I just bought Corel VideoStudio Pro Ultimate for the same price that VideoStudio Pro was going for, so it's a pretty good deal.  I haven't done a lot with it yet, but after watching some online tutorials I was able to put together a small slide show with transitions and titles.  I don't think it's as full-featured as Sony's or Cyberlink's, but it depends on what you are wanting it for.  For me, it fit my requirements perfectly, and it's cheaper than any of the others.  It really depends on what functionality you need, but for a good basic package this will be my go-to.

I have the Cyberlink Media Suite Ultra...

I've done Bluray's with it and it works well...but Bluray's take FOREVER to burn...

I have a 12x burner, but the fastest Bluray disks right now are 6x...

    A 4x disc took 8 hrs to burn...not dual layer either...just 25 gig...

I also use the Cyberlink Wave Editor to convert to MP3 since Cake charges extra for the MP3 option.  It does this well, and doesn't cost me anything since I already had the Media Suite,
which includes all the Ultra Versions for about the same price as ONE of the programs.

My first Bluray Drive, long long ago, in a Galaxy far far away....also used Cyberlink...so I've been with them for a while...so am probably biased, as I've used their software without issue for years.

PowerDirector 11 Ultra and Deluxe can capture a webcam. Click on Capture on the main window and you should see a webcam icon in the list of capture devices. I don't have a webcam, so I can't be more specific.
