Cannot import audio
Hi all, I am working on a remix project for a client. I am trying to import audio from a cd into X2a but all I get is a block waveform and a (busy) in the track header. I've tried direct import from cd, I've ripped the disc and tried to import it from there. I've tried to import other audio from music on my computer. Same thing. The files are all good. The kicker is I can import no problem into 8.5. If I import to 8.5 and save it there, then try to open it in X2a it still won't read the audio file. Very weird. Any ideas why it would behave like this? Thanks for the help on this one. I'm on a deadline for these mixes and I'm dead in the water. I need Pro Channel and my X2 stuff! Uggh! Tommy

File-Import-Audio CD... and then select the track you want. That works for me with X2A. Maybe you need to clear your picture cache.

@southpaw3473 Is it possible that what you are trying to rip is an audio format that Sonar has trouble with? I know there are some embedded tags that freak it out, but I cannot remember which ones. The fix for that issue is to convert them to something like wav format - which was suggested above. Give that a try - there are tons of free format converters out there. Bob Bone

Sorry - forgot to add that once you convert to wav, import the converted files. Bob Bone

have you tried drag and drop from the browser yet? just use your browser and dirct it to the folder where your wave files are. drag it right in to your project. it may also be possible theres a copyright protection on the disk you ripped.if you found a way to rip a copywritten protected disk, then tried to import it you might end up with an error. hope this helps

I have tried all of the above options and none work. I am ripping from an audio cd so the rip is already a wave file. The only workaround is to work in 8.5 which is not ideal. I don't know why I can import to 8.5 and not to X2a. I cannot import ANY audio format.

what is the file format for the audio you are trying to import? I know it is on a CD. but what kind of files are they? Good question. Are they from a commercial CD which means they are CDAs which need to be ripped to WAV files, or are they MP3 CDs which are data disks and the MP3 files should be dragged and dropped to an audio track in Sonar, or are they WAV files, but not Broadcast WAV files and they are being placed way far out in the track and you're not seeing them? Edit: If you can't import any audio files into Sonar, then it seems to me that there's a problem with your Sonar X2A install. I would reinstall it. Did you install Sonar X2A to the default folders or to another drive?

These were just tracks my client recorded in another studio and burned as an audio disc. This problem seems to have just popped up. I have done this before into X2a without problems. Dave, I did install the program to C: but my Sonar audio files are on another drive. Do you think a clean install is in order? I have to admit, it has seemed rather buggy to me, nothing major, just little things like not being able to quick group in the console view that fixes with a program restart. A few things like that. Any way, thanks for the helpful suggestions gang. I've been at this for most of the day and it has been a real work killer!

These were just tracks my client recorded in another studio and burned as an audio disc. Hmmm. Is it possible these are copy-protected or encrypted to keep someone from copying them? If you look at the disk in Windows Explorer, what are the full filenames, i.e., Track01.cda or xxxxxx.wav or xxxxx.omf? Can you play the files in Windows Media Player? Try importing files in X2A from a commercially available CD. Does that work? I suspect its something to do with the files although I don't know why it works with Sonar 8.5 and not Sonar X2A. Before you do a full uninstall / reinstall of Sonar, I would just do a reinstall in place (over the existing version).
