Reborn (Electronica/IDM)

When i listen to most of my older tracks i cringe, because i hate the mixing job i'd done on them.  This is one of those tracks i wanted to remix and edit, so i have, and it sounds nearer to what i wish it originally sounded like.  Still not as good as i'd really like it to sound, but about the best my abilities will allow at this present time.

Hope you enjoy.

This does sound thicker than your usual stuff, John. I also didn't get the sense of space you usually are the master at achieving.

    The sound choices are wonderful...

    Hi James,

    Thanks for checking it out.

Cheers for the words on the sound choices as i'm particularly happy with them myself. :-)

Yep i think you make a good point about the thickness and lack of openness.  I think i probably went a bit overboard with the EQ during the mastering stage, but not really sure to be honest.

I've remastered it and uploaded a new version which i think addresses these issues a bit, although it's a very busy mix and soundcloud has'nt been too kind with it's conversion.

Does this vesrsion sound any better to your ears?

       Thanks.
                John.

Nice John I like the sound of this ! It does sound heavier then the stuff you have recorded and mixed in your past tunes , nice change I enjoyed what you created in this tune .

    Blip,

I like this one.  Yea, it is heavier.  The sustained bass and resonance makes it so.  Andreverb on the "sounds."  Cool.

As James pointed out, still the great collection of sounds and riffs.  If they aren't as distinct I think that is a function of the bass eating up a lot of sonic space and reverb  I don't know how much high-passing the bass would help.

But I like the thickness.  And busy-ness of the piece.

The opening reminded me of Tonto's Expanding Head Band but then it matured.

John, if there was anything off on that mix, I certainly couldn't hear it.  As James noted, it was a bit more dense than what we've heard from you previously, but that seemed to fit the mood of the piece.  As for the music itself, I thought it was a great choice of instruments and textures.  I genuinely enjoyed this.

BTW- What does "IDM" stand for?

There's nothing wrong with thickness if it's surrounded by various textures that complement the bass, as this song does.  I like it that you're trying new things and growing.  I enjoyed listening to this, as I've always liked your other songs.  Bravo.

Having heard multiple edits of this, I have to confess that I actually prefer the original version for reasons that John knows. It is a challenge to revisit something that was created in a moment of inspiration and not harm the element of passion that comes through from that IMO.

It felt like it was punching me in the n..ds?

And then it built and add more instruments.

My constructive advice would be, build on it the way you do? But change it?

Build on it the way you do, and take it to a point? And send it 180 degrees that way... Or at least 45?

I'm not into this style but it sounds really good.

Interesting to me is the comments on this tune and another just like it here on the forum.

Your definitly creative. I think, "I'm going to try to make this stuff." The only problem is I get a project set up and that's about it. lol! I guess everyone has their own thing.

    Well done!

I like the mix with the heavy lower end. The occasional piano adds a nice dimension on the high-mid range. The synth and instrument choice are great with a nice tone. For the most part the song is on one chord sequence/bass line with one short variation around 2:46, I guess that is must be one of the electronica style. But this is me, but I would add some more variations.

I first listened in a tablet, which sounded a littler muffled, so I put it through the Hi-Fi, a lot clearer and the bass in this knocked my socks off.

Love the way it builds, and the introduction of new instruments. Great piece of musicianship this Blipp. I enjoy your work so much.

@ Feddy J:  Cheers Freddy. Yep i like to create an atmosphere with my tunes. Pleased you got that from it.

@ Wookiee: Thanks John.  I've heard of "Tonto's expanding head band", but never listene to them before. I'll have to check them out.

@ Philz: Many thanks Phil. Glad you enjoyed it. Yeah this one, like a lot of my tracks ends up with a lot of sounds all competing for space at the same time and they're a reall bugger to mix. I love making hard work for myself . ;-)

What is "IDM"? I think this probably describes it better than i could: http://en.wikipedia.org/w..Intelligent_dance_music

@ Lynn: Cheers Lynn. Pleased you enjoyed it and thanks for the encouraging words. :-)

@ darylcrowley: Thanks Daryl. Glad you had a good trip. :-)

@ notnat: Thanks Frank. Pleased you dug it and cheers for the nice comments.

@ foxwolfen: Cheers Shad.  Yep, i appreciate your honesty and yes, i can appreciate what you're saying. I can't really make up my mind which i prefer to be honest as i keep changing my mind. I'm never really satisfied with anything i've done really. One day though...Maybe. :-)

@ The Band 19: Sorry Robby.  Hope you don't want more kids in the future. ;-)

@ Guitarprima:  Cheers Robert.  Thanks for the kind words. Glad you enjoyed it. Yep, have a go at this style and you might find out you have a flair for it. Would be interestrd to hear it.

@ ohgrant: Thankks Grant. Appreciate your comments.

@ vechung: Thanks for checking this out Vicente. Repetition is sometimes used a lot in electronica and it's an element i'm rather partial to sometimes. I realise that it's notfor everyone though.

@ mstoge: Thanks Mark. Glad you liked it and thanks for checking it out on your hi-fi. Pleased to hear it sounded good on your system. :-)

@ triscuit. Hi Tristan. How ya doing? Great to see you're still around. :-)
