Overclocking fear

Have any of you had success with ordering a custom pc built by a pro's with overclocking but not necessarily experts in "audio pc" builds, but experienced in overclocking (such as gaming pc builders)? I am looking into a 3930k build btw

    Yes.

My general internet/office/gaming pc also has X2 installed on it, and it runs like a dream

    It's running an Intel i7 950 @ 3.07GHz.

The CPU/Mobo & 24Gb Ram were all supplied as an overclocked bare bones system and I put the rest of it together myself.

If anything, this machine is more stable than my DAW, which was built by a 3rd party specialist DAW builder

    Custom built i7 3930, 32Gb RAM, 2 x 1Tb Internal HDD, 1 x 1TB system SSD (Win 7), 1 x 500Gb system SSD (Win 10), 2 x 1Tb External HDD's, Dual boot Win 7 & Win 10 64 Bit, Saffire Pro 26, ISA One, Adam P11A,

Thanks B_J, good to hear. The next question then is, should I just skip them doing the OC? Is it easy to OC a 3930K on an X79?

Why is using EasyTune6 so bad?? Is it buggy? May be EasyTune works nicely now with these new boards?

Easy Tune 6, installed on my new Gigabyte Z77 motherboard (with an i7 3770) caused very high DPC latency spikes.  It was also affecting record/playback in Sonar.  Jim Roseberry came to the rescue and knew about the problems Easy Tune causes.  I uninstalled it and the DPC latency spikes (shown by the DPC Latency Checker) went away as did my record/playback problems.

thanks for the response fireberd, Well that stinks! that makes me very sad So what was your solution, did you bother with any kind of overclocking then or left it at stock?

I have left mine stock.  I could go into the UEFI BIOS and overclock there if I wanted, but the stock i7 3770 is fine for my uses.

I am starting to think I should just leave it stock as well. If I knew how much of a boost 3930k would be over a 1st gen 920 that would be reassuring, and real experience insight not some irrelevant benchmark.
