Want to adjust the PC of two tracks at the same time. Not working.

I'm quick grouping then holding Ctrl while making my adjustments. It kind of works at first but then they end up totally different after a very short while. I know there is a way to do this but with all the linking, grouping, etch options I don't know how to just make these parameters effect two tracks at the same time. As I was going through those tuts I could not make the PCs of two tracks link up how I want.

There has to be an easy way to do this without having to hold Ctrl (which isn't working anyway). How do you guys do this?

Please help. I'm starting to go a little crazy today with this stuff. Cheers.

If I intend to use the same FX on more than one track I will out them to a buss. The buss is where I do any FX changes. This includes PC modules too.

@John... Sure, I do that as well (actually I send everything out to a bus) but I want to be able to shape the the sound of the actual tracks before sending it out then use the bus to sculpt it further. Essentially I want to get the tracks (in this case a double mic'd vocal) both in the same range as far as EQ, effects, compression then after they have been roughed out fine tweak them individually. Then they go to the bus to get smoothed out. Probably not proper technique but it works for me. Seriously I just need to know how to link the the Pro Channel modules of the tracks together. I'd also like to know how to properly link effects in the bin in the same manner reliably which is important for my guitar stuff.

Am I out of luck here?

Sorry if I'm being grumpy. I'm in a weird mood today. Cheers.

Beep, it works here but you have to use the ctrl key to a) select the tracks and b) keep it pressed while you adjust your parameters

Beep I can't imagine you being grumpy to anyone on this forum. I would prescribe a cup of nice tea and relax a bit. You are not by nature a grumpy person. I am though.

Linking FX in Sonar from track to track has never been a thing that can be done to my knowledge. The only thing I know of that does work is copy and past from one FX bin to another. For PC modules you may need to save a preset and load it in the other track. In your case that would work because PC presets are global to the PC meaning a preset is for all the modules in the channel.

I'm finding it hard to believe that with all the power and linky groupy functions in this program I can't do this. I could just save the PC as a preset but then I can't sculpt it while listening to it.

I seem to be having more luck now holding the control key and making things work across the tracks but I'm doing a LOT of stuff here including inserting modules, moving them around, tweaking compressors, etc... If I stop pressing that Ctrl key for a second it all goes out of whack and I have to start over.

Sooo... this really is the only way to do it?

    *sigh*

Okay... I guess I'll make sure to add that to proper procedural habits. I was just hoping the linking/grouping stuff would do this. Frankly whenever I've tried those things it fell short of what would be useful to me. Doesn't make sense.

    Cheers.

Yeah... I can be a real grumpy bugger sometimes, John. I just try to be a good boy here. There was a fellow the other night who almost made me pop but I abstained. It would have gotten very ugly methinks so I'm glad I did.

Cheers and thanks for the insight. I'll suck it up and add this to my workflow.

Did you try right-clicking each of the knobs and use the group option, instead of quick grouping? I bet these groups persist in a project template.

Okay... that's interesting, scook. I hadn't encountered that one before. Doesn't seem to appear for all modules and I'm not sure how it works but right click in the EQ section does seem to bring up some grouping options. Not ideal but the EQ is definitely the biggest PITA to keep consistent between tracks. I'll take a closer look at that. Thanks.

    Hi Beep,

I just tried this out again, I use it from time to time. I do this in console view and simply select the tracks and hold the cntrl key while I make changes to the eq to a single track. If one of the tracks already has an eq plot that is different than the others. Then the changes will be relative.

I didn't keep trying a ton of changes though to see if they slide or act quirky over time. But it does work for what I need. FWIW: I usually use this type of editing when working with the console module or the eq / highpass.

    Best,
    MR

Another thing you can do in Console View is ctrl + drag one EQ plot to another track - it only works if the EQ is set yo anything but "flat" but can be really useful at times

I've noticed that holding the CTRL key with quickgroups only seems to work when you make the adjustments from the left-most track grouped. At least for me. I just do that all the time anyway.

Notation, the original DAW. Everything else is just rote. We are who we are and no more than another. Humans, you people are crazy.

@musicroom... Hi there. Yeah... I'm not sure what's up. It seems to work sometimes then not others so either I'm screwing up or I'm experiencing what Guitarpima described.

@Jonesey... Now THAT is super useful. Yeesh, I guess I'd better get back to the manual. I figured I had pounded through all the general functions because it was meandering off into duplication and more obscure topics but I guess I'll have to keep trawling it to scoop up all the tidbits. They really need to work on the layout of that epic tome. :-/

@Guitarpima... Thanks for that. I will test it out to see if that's what is happening. Cheers.

Anyway... I still don't understand why with all the fancy ways to link and group stuff you can't just link tracks together in a way that EVERYTHING is linked. Seems like a no brainer. Oh well.

I do not know often the subject comes up. This is the first thread that I recall where someone wanted to link everything together.
