ACT MIDI Controller to NOT work in Tracks/Busses/Mains?

Hello,

I was hoping this was possible, but haven't figured it out yet.

I would like to use my MIDI controller to ONLY control softsynth parameters, BUT when Im not in a softsynth and I accidentally move a knob/slider, I see I am adjusting volumes and panning of my tracks in the track view.   Is there anyway to disable to ACT Midi Controller from editing the Track view stuff and ONLY work for softsynths?

Thank You!

Adam

I don’t know what controller you’re using, but the only way I can think of at the moment is:

    1. Go to Edit > Preferences > MIDI > Control Surfaces.
    2. Check both “Track View” and “Console View” under [WAI Display] (just to make it easy to see what’s going on).
    3. Check “All Strips” under [Control Strips Visible in:] and click OK.
    4. In the Track view, insert eight dummy audio tracks (if you have eight knobs and sliders) and move them to the top.
    5. In the Track view, press H to open Track Manager.
    6. Uncheck the eight dummy tracks and click OK.
    7. In the Console view, press H to open Track Manager and do the same.
    8. Tweak the knobs and sliders on your MIDI controller. It only affects the dummy tracks!

    Hi Jlien...

Thx for the response!  There's GOT to be another way other than that (i would hope lol).   Thats a bit messy (but yes, would work) :)

Hang on a sec, I think you don't even need ACT if you only want to control soft synths. Remove your control surface from the preferences page and use Remote Control instead. Detach the Browser and dock it to MultiDock, and click the Synth tab (Synth Rack) and click the Assign Control button and.... I forgot how to set up. Please read Sonar Reference Guide.

Problem there is that doing it that way, i dont believe the next time you load up an instance of the same softsynth that it will remember which knobs/sliders correlate to the parameters you have setup.   I could be wrong, will try it out.

When you load your soft synth, check the [Recall Assignable Controls] box in the [Insert Soft Synth Options] dialog box. I think this will solve the problem.

Oh...it just DISPLAYS the same knobs but DOESN'T remember the links? Then I can only think of the messy method I posted earlier....

I've just discovered this "ACT follows context" check box on the option settings page of my controller surface plugin. I unchecked it, and now the ACT no longer controls the knobs/sliders of Sonar. It ONLY controls softsynth parameters.

If your control surface plugin has this check box, try it.
