Anybody build instruments?

What's up, everyone. So, I wanna give a shot at building a holed 'brass' or perhaps woodwind instrument using pvc pipe or something similar.
I was wondering, has anyone around here gone about giving a shot at this? Specifically, building your own instrument?
(I'm generally looking for the DIY approach to wind instruments, but any type of DIY chromatic instrument is cool with me)

I like building tuned pipe xylophone kinda things. Also Marimbas out of blocks and tounge drums too.

    Simple and fun.

Never tried any wind instruments... seems like it would be fun.

    best regards,

I haven't built stuff like that, but I can definitely recommend this book:

Musical Instrument Design: Practical Information for Instrument Design by Bart Hopkin

I got it because it explains how virtually every instrument "works", but it also has do it yourself projects.

In order, then, to discover the limit of deepest tones, it is necessary not only to produce very violent agitations in the air but to give these the form of simple pendular vibrations. - Hermann von Helmholtz, predicting the role of the electric bassist in 1877.

When I was young, after many months of practice, investigation, reading manuals, trial and error, I made this instrument.

My talent pretty much ended there.
