Please ... focus here gents ... I need some help.

I have a large project I'm trying to use side chaining on for the first time.

I downloaded Melda's Total Package bundle. My God it's incredible. So incredible, I called the place where I'm selling my guitar and offered it to them for the price of the software if they would take it off my hands. No go, they don't want to own a left handed oddity. I can understand.

Anyway ...

I'm trying to set up the AutoVolume VST. It's basically Wave's Vocal Rider VST.

I can't figure out this side chaining thing to save my life.

Can someone give me an example for say, a project with 5 tracks (One being the Vocal) and 2 buses please.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I only have 14 days left to test this demo. BTW ... it is incredible. They have an AutoDynamicEQ that is just amazing. I slapped it on the Master of my latest project and I just couldn't believe my ears. I was absolutely amazed.

Thanks,

Bub.

on the track/buss you want to "auto volume" put the VST.
on the track/buss you want to effect your "auto volume" slap a send, pre fader to the vocal rider. where ever that may be. that's if sonar recognizes it can be side chained. it will come up in the send dialogue.
adjust similar to a gate /compressor/ to taste.

does this sound right? someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

I have no knowledge of Melba or waves vocal rider.

please let us know the outcome.

Side chaining is relatively straightforward although precise setup will depend on exactly what you are trying to achieve

    Basic explanation

Signal A is processed by VST A.
VST A is however controlled by Signal B.

    Basic Set up

Track or buss with Signal A and VST A on it
Set up send or output from Signal B to sidechain input of  VST A. (It will appear in the output list)

That's pretty much it although you may be able to monitor the sidechain input from within the plugin. That usually appears as a "Sidechain" selection or "Key" button within the plugin.

I do believe Cake have just released a video that includes a full explanation of setting up and using a sidechain...

It was ok. :) Any input is good input. :)

I clicked on it, but closed it by accident before I got a chance to read it.

    Thanks guitarmikeh and FBB.

    You guys got me going.

This project has almost as many buses as it does tracks, so I had to go in and re-route a lot of stuff. That was throwing me off.

I basically ended up having everything running to buses, then to a Pre_Master bus. Then I have the Vocal track running directly to the Master. I put the VST on the Vocal Track, Side Chained it on the Pre_Master, and it seems to be working, although ... I don't hear much of a difference because I already spent some extensive time smoothing out the vocals with Envelopes.

I just wanted to try it before my Demo period ran out.

BTW ... Melda's Total Bundle package is on sale this month for $414. You get free lifetime updates and upgrades. Any time they add a new VST (It's currently at 69), you get the new VST at no charge, plus all software updates. You can download it and use it unrestricted for 15 days.

VST, VST3, 32bit, 64bit, free updates and upgrades for life. That's hard to beat.

Thanks, glad you found it useful. I practice the silly voice.

BTW did you have any luck at getting X2 working better for you?
