Newbie 6.2 LE question

Hi first time posting here I am a bit of a old guy with this stuff having only realy been involved with analogue recording stuff. I got LE 6 bundled with cakewalk ua-25 a few years ago and to be honest have not used it much maybe a couple of recordings just fooling around.  I want to record my blues band to make a CD and have a Yamaha AW1600 or a Zoom R16 to do the recording but was hoping to do the mix down at home with sonar. My question is how do I upgrade I have LE6.2 and can see no option to upgrade to LE8.5 I have been offered Music Creator 6 but realy do not know if it is any better than what I have got.
The truth is I don't realy know how to use 6.2 but am willing to put some time in to learn what I want to do is add FX like reverb delay etc correct wrong notes (if there are just a couple in the mix) and move notes if they are out of time (we have a real drummer) maybe remove some background noise (noise gate?) and generaly make the mixdown sound reasonably good (we will be selling CD's to our unsuspecting public) so any advice do I need to upgrade? is what I have perfectly ok?
My computer is getting a bit old its a intel 2 quad cpu 2.40+2.40 Ghz with 8 gig ram

cheers

    Welcome to the forum.
Since the LE versions are givaways, usually with some type of hardware, you can't upgrade from 1 LE to another and get a price break.
You should be able to get a deal on an upgrade to X1 Essentials, Studio or Producer.
You can add effects with 6.2 LE. If what you want doidn't come with the program, there are millions of VST effects and synths available on the internet, some for free.
You can't really correct flat/sharp audio notes, though. You'd need a program like Melodyne or Autotune for that. Or the Afforementioned X1 with V-Vocal.
You can chop up clips into smaller clips and move them around in 6.2 to correct timing errors.
You can EQ bad noises out, to an extent.
I suggest you give it a try with the gear you have. It should provide plenty of tracks for your live recording and overdubs unless you plan on recording an orchestra.

    Hi Greg,

Thank you for the reply I will check out how much the X1 upgrade will be. I am going to get the Zoom R16 today from a local shop which I intend to use it for band rehersal as it has 2 mic's built in might also use this to record the band properly when we are ready and I believe you can use this as an interface with Sonar (it comes with an other LE program not sonar) but if the quality is better with the yamaha I might use that. We should have plenty of inputs to record at once having a complete set of drum mikes and a 16/4/2 mixer which will mix down to sterio and that leaves 6 channels and we have lead+ rythm guitar and bass plus vocals and up to 16 tracks to record to plenty tracks. I can not see me wanting more than 24 tracks audio and 8 tracks midi with any daw.

For my own recordings at home I will probably use my cakewalk ua-25 interface(I suspect although can not be sure that it will have better pre amps than the zoom or Yamaha) but I have a lot to learn as I don't know if you can record proper bass guitar by using a keyboard and bass module (samples) if you can it would be great as I can get rid of my bass guitar(I play lead guitar) as I do not have a lot of real estate in the small room I record in also I hear you can get a program called amplitude for guitar but don't know how it works out with sonar which would enable me not to mike up my amp all these things I need to find out.

According to what I read, the Yamaha can't be used as an audio interface but you can transfer tracks from it to a computer via USB.
You might want to check more closely on the Zoom, too. It looks like it can only output a stereo signal to the DAW.
If you want to record an entire live band and have the instruments on different tracks in the DAW, well, you can't do that. You'd have to record each instrument seperately into SONAR, despite it's ability to record on up to 8 (?) tracks simultaneously.

    Hi Greg

Thanks for info I know you can import a project from the R16 to cubase as individual tracks but don't know about sonar I would imagine that it would be the case.

At the moment I am strugling to set up the R16 on sonar as a control interface but I will record 8 seperate tracks on the R16 later on and import them into Sonar via memory stick and see what happens.

Sorry for delay of test with Sonar,

For anyone thinking of buying the Zoom R16 (handy for portable recording) you can import individual tracks into Sonar all at once from the Zoom R16. You set the zoom up as a card reader and you can drag and drop (or copy and paste) the project file into a folder of you’re choosing on any of your hard drives. From Sonar you select file/import go to where you have saved the project click on project then audio then you will see the tracks,  highlight 1 track then press controller A (PC) this will select all and click on ok this will load all the tracks selected (up to 16) into Sonar.

I have not managed to set up the zoom to act as a controller in Sonar but have in cubase every time I try Sonar just freezes I have downloaded the driver for sonar maybe my version of Sonar LE is too old being 6.2 but it is no big deal as it allows me to record the band with the zoom away from home and edit with sonar when I return.  To get the controller working would be the icing on cake though.
