Multiple MIDI clips in Take/Track lanes: How to select which to draw to?
I've had this problem even in X1 before take lanes were implemented. When I have multiple midi clips in a track, overlapping each other (normally for drum tracks), how can I choose which clip I want to draw notes to, when using piano roll? Often it defaults drawing the notes to the wrong midi clip, and my only solution so far is to temporarily move all the other clips out of the way, so that it defaults to the only midi clip playing at that time. Is there an easier way of managing this? Thanks!

Bump This is a good question. I also would like to know. I recall several sonar versions ago being able to check a box in PRV mode to select which clip you were using I cannot find that feature anymore.

Bump, I'm still having these issues. I just would like to know what logic SONAR uses to determine which of the clips it draws notes to, so at least the behavior is predictable. It just seems very random to me. Thanks

I don't know if this will help you, as your workflow might be completely different to mine, but in a situation like this, I would bounce the entire Midi track to clip This way you'll have one, long, contiguous clip and editing should be a breeze.

In my workflow, particularly for drums, I use separate clips for separate elements of the drums, that way I can quickly change the kick/snare pattern from one part to another without changing the hi-hats, for example. When I was doing dubstep-like automation for a synth track, I would also have separate and overlapping midi tracks, one for the midi notes, one for filter automation, one for pitch automation, etc. That way it is very easy for me to move around the automations without changing the notes. However, clip locking seems to work, I never used or knew about that feature. Thanks swamptooth!
