video cards and buffers

so my V card died and i stole my kids 6870 gamer card ATI yuc. till my card comes back.
i have 16 gigs of ram already. so the 2gigs on the card, isnt helpful.
but i leads me to ask if there is any change idea for better performance with diffent cars since everyone has differnt cars,is there was to utilise the memory sonar uses to keep my lag down
like on gaming rig .when you can use  2 cards 1 for physic use and 1 for the base program.
can you make all those high end plug ins, that slow down my daw to run away from my project
or am i waisting 10 min typing about a useless topic.
is there anything i should know about vid cards and there use with sonar
like good buffer changes and highend tweeks to help lower the overhead on large project 40 tracks and more, i dont think it matters at all, but its worth the post to know if im missing somthing
no i dont use sonar for video edit i use adobe
64 bit win7 delta1010 16 gigs ram with a AMD 6 core on a 990 fx

SONAR and Windows 7  use the video card so of course you want to use a good one!
I use this, killer graphic. 2GB RAM and best thing you can run and use up to 4 screens on one card. Note it's total silent!! You can't hear the fan even under load!

ASUS GT640-2GD3. Has the power to run the most games too but not the heavy one.

You can buy an even more expensive from 600 series if you want!

I don't think Crossfire or SLI will be of any help and more of a hindrance with your DAW. Physics, originally developed by agea, as far as video cards go, deals with the particle count in some supported games nothing of benefit there for making music. For video card recommendation, if you're not using the HDMI output, I would go with an older card that doesn't have the onboard audio device that nVidia are using now. Reason is I tried 2 newer NV cards ,with HDMI ,that conflicted with my old Delta 1010lt. I went with a 9800GTX, you can get them from ebay for about $50

ya i run 3 monitors and hate having to go back to 1. love to spread out my daw
and sonar loves 3 monitors, im a undocking fool.
i was wondering if the lanes since they are auto zoom now. will one day be undockable,
freddie what are your buffers set at for record and playback
just wonder if i can go higher and not brake somthing
does that buffer cause a spike in CPU use. with 16 gigs it seems it could be higher

768 samples..

I can go lower but I don't need to. I have zero latecy during tracking + I use extra 02R V2 Yamaha Digital console and external monitor setup.

I don't understand your latency question and graphic card? It doesn't bring any latency to the setup. Make sure you have AERO on in Windows 7 /8 and you will not get any hicks or dropouts no matter how many screeens or windows you have open. All taken care of the GPU and RAM on board the graphic card.

Hope it help!

Best regards
Freddie
