Connecting Sonar X2 and iPad wireless. Using Mackie Controller (AC-7) - Need help!

Hello

Firstly, english is my second language, so please be patient...:)

I want to use my iPad to run Mackies software controller (AC-7 Core HD) with Sonar X2. This should work in wireless mode according to this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pru9Cm34fjM

I have followed the instruction but it don't seem to work. The wireless connection with Sonar seem to work, but I don't get the sliders on the iPad to work.

I have attached two images.
The first image shows that Mackie control is present. However it seem to freeze in the connection, but still Sonar indicates that the controller is present (orange highlighted by red circle at lower side).

The second image is of the iPad, showing Mackie control mode for Sonar. However, no signal or option to control Sonar. The sliders and buttons are working, but not assigned to Sonar...

Any help would be appreciated!

The Best
E

    Hey Erik!

I was hoping that you'd get some responses here.  I am having EXACTLY the same problem.  Everything is looking like it WANTS to work, but no go.  If you get this figured out I'd love to hear how you got it going.

    Best,

Your setup seems fine.  Press "RESET" in AC-7 to enable the connection. Works for me bidirectionally.

See in the rptMidi screen shot where latency = ???

That means rptMidi is not able to see the iPad. It should show a number in milli seconds like 54 or something.

That needs to work first before sonar will connect. Work on that first and forget sonar until that works.

AC should be running on the iPod. That's all that is needed for rptMidi to connect to the iPod and show the latency of the connection.

I couldn't get this working in X2/X2a. Works fine with X1d.

Are you sure that the Bonjour service is running? If that is not running then you can't connect. I have run AC-7 without any problems on both X1d and also on X2 first release and with latest patch. No issues. Make sure that the midi devices are enabled in Sonar in the event that they have not been already.

Yep. Followed same directions on both. In my case, even with both X1 and X2 working on the same machine, I couldn't get it working in X2.

Hi there, I have it working with X2 but did have some hoops to jump through.
as previously posted install rtpmidi and make sure the bonjour service is installed/running
on AC7Core HD you should be able to connect to the rtpmidi network and it should show up in rtp midi as connected to the session.
Add the Mackie controller in Sonar (not the extension)
once this is done you may have to press the reset button or (as I have found) reboot the ipad.  This is so that the tracks names appear and all the lights come on in AC7.

The computer and ipad need to be able to see each other on the network. I can ping my ipad from the computer which verifies that they can see each other. On the ipad the ip address can be found in Settings/General/Network/Wi-Fi and selecting the arrow next to your wifi connection. To ping from the computer go to Start/Run and type "cmd". In the command prompt type "ping" followed by a space and the ipads ip address.

Also, both the bonjour and rptmidi services need to be running.

With AC7 started on the ipad, AC7 should be able to connect to the rptmidi service. It should show your latency verifying the connections.

This needs to work before Sonar will work with AC7. Sonar does not need to be started for all the above to work.

Once this is working and Sonar is configured correctly as illustrated in the original posts screen shots, AC7 should  connect when you press reset in AC7.

it is worth mentioning that if you press the transport buttons and it works but everything is greyed out then you will need to reboot the ipad (with Sonar still running and the meters, track names, transport etc. should all work. I only found out by running around trying to solve the same problem. I think the Mackie control setting may need to be set to singal leds only (not signals + meters)

    try this:

    Exit  Sonar

Go to C:Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Cakewalk\Sonar X2 Producer folder with Windows Explorer and delete (or rename if you're the cautious type) ctrlsurface.dat and ttseq.ini.

restart and go through the setup again...

I have an update to my efforts. I managed to get AC-7 working with X2a, but the transport controls, and mute buttons did not work. Only the faders and jog.

do you get the track names and do the controls light up (like select?)

if not leave everything running (rtpmidi, sonar) and then reboot the ipad and restart AC7

Yeah, track names updated, but select, solo, etc don't respond. Tried rebooting the device, but to no avail. Works fine in X1, though.

I found this useful also. having read this I realised that the select button isn't exactly what you would think. As The XT is based on the physical hardware, the functions in theory should match.
