Two things: 

I used to create the concentrated stuff back in the 70's - lots of stories about its use (and abuse) can be had over a pint (or three).

When I worked at Verizon Wireless, they had a stench problem as well, however something like fart-gas was sort of their first conclusion so they didn't do much about it until some of the staff got sick (it was bad in there).  They finally put smell detectors in several rooms and lots of people made a point of using those rooms whenever they had to "vent" to try and get management to realize there really was a problem.  Turns out that there were some malfunctioning pumps somewhere and the traps in the bathrooms were drying out causing sewage fumes to enter into the building.
