Sonar not remembering my midi keyboard.
Hello all, having a small issue with getting x2 to remember my midi keyboard, I have gone into preferences and selected it but yet when ever I open up a project or start a new one it never works even though it's selected in preferences. If I unplug it and re-plug it back in with sonar open it will work. Any ideas? It's an Alesis Q25.

Is it bus powered? If not, is it switched on before you launch Sonar?

I think it's switched on before sonar is started as i tend leave my setup all plugged in when done for the day. And I've just checked the keyboard specs and it's bus powered.

Hi - sounds like Windows is turning off the USB port. By default, Windows will turn off USB-connected devices after a certain amount of inactivity. You can control this through either Device Manager or by adjusting the Windows Power Settings. I recommend using the Windows Power Settings. Bob Bone

If there is a switch turn it off after each session and turn it on before opening Sonar. If there is no switch unplug it after closing Sonar and plug it back in before opening Sonar. Also as Bob said be sure to disable USB power management so the keyboard doesn't get disconnected in the middle of a session. Another to remember is that it is best to keep the controller plugged into the USB port it was connected to when you installed the drivers. If you can't remember which port it was uninstall/reinstall the drivers and make a note of which port you used. This supposedly helps to keep the computer from getting confused when it's looking for the device/drivers. Not all of this may be necessary but it's all little tips I've picked up to ensure things work properly and by following these steps myself I never (touch wood) have had any problems.

Oh and make sure you have the latest drivers for the controller. Cheers.

I would use an A/C power supply if that's an option. Using USB to power equipment seems kinda whimpy to me. It never did make good coffee.

I would recomend Bob Bone's advice to adjust the Windows Power Settings. They are one of the few "tweaks" that I perform on my DAW. My A-300PRO is USB powered, and I've never had a problem with it. As long as you do this, and are using a desktop, not a Laptop, and you're not plugged into an unpowered hub, it should be okay.
