Apply midi effects to midi clips?

Hi,

I am on X2 pro.
I am trying to apply midi effects to a clip. The track and clips are selected, but the midi effects options on the menu is grayed out.
What am I missing?

best,
joni

Can you drag an effect onto the clip from the browser?

Select the clip, open the browser, click MIDI FX then drag one of the effects onto the clip. You can't use regular audio effects on MIDI clips. You have to bounce the MIDI to audio.

If I'm misunderstanding my apologies. Cheers.

    Hi,

I never tried dragging form the browser...
But I used to select a clip, go to menu PROCESS, MIDI EFFECTS and choose the effect I wanted. It doesn't work anymore on X1 and X2...

Process > MIDI Effects is for applying real-time Fx in the bin permanently to a track. It applies the Fx and empties the FX bin.

What you're looking for is... right-click on the MIDI clip and choose Process Effect > MIDI Effects.

    Hi Scott,

Yes, that is what I have been using now.
But please confirm, the Process > MIDI Effects  used to work on the clips before right?

From what I can remember, the Process > MIDI Effects used to apply the effect destructively and the right-click on the MIDI clip and choose Process Effect > MIDI Effects used to inset the plugin on the clip....(or am I going crazy>)

    Thank you,

    regards,
    joni

    Hi Joni,

I don't think so, but now I'm not sure. I just know this is how it works now in X1 and X2.

    Hi Joni,

Well, now you got me curious... so I just checked in SONAR 8.5 and you're right. It worked as you described back in that version. You didn't need to right-click in 8.5. So it was definitely changed in X1 and X2.

    Glad to help!
