I'm tired of Beta testing X2

X2a is definitely more solid than previous versions, but...

I'm trying to copy midi from one or more simple instrument tracks to simple instrument tracks in another project. It doesn't work. I'm wasting a lot of time trying different ways, e.g. copy-special, including automation envelopes, excluding automation envelopes, multiple tracks, single tracks.

I need to be able to copy midi + envelopes from one project to another. After much trial and error, I'm ready to give up, and go through the tedious process of manually re-entering all the midi and envelopes into the destination project. Why should I have to do all that work -- isn't that what computers are for?

If Cakewalk isn't going to make certain functionality work -- functionality that our intuition tells us should work -- then I suggest Cakewalk make it known to us that it doesn't work, so as to save us time and frustration from finding that out ourselves. For example, Cakewalk should announce somewhere: "You can open up two projects at the same time, but you can't copy midi and/or envelopes from one project to another. Even though the copy & paste functions are enabled (i.e. not grayed out) please don't use them, because they don't work. We apologize for the inconvenience."

The same kind of thing bothers me in Microsoft Outlook. I cannot copy appointments from one calendar to another. It says "you cannot do that." It makes you wonder what's so freaking complicated to code something that in theory is the simplest concept imaginable.

Have you tried saving those tracks as a template, and then open the template up in another project?

Not sure if it will work, but it may get you closer.

    Good luck.

Try using "Paste special" and select "Paste into one track" - that should do it.

Hey, that worked -- thanks! So I'm better off now, but I still can't copy multiple tracks from one project, into multiple tracks in another project. Oh well, one track at a time is better than nothing.

    Mike,

Are you trying to copy all tracks from one project into another? If so, just open the destination project and then drag/drop the other project file into the Track view from the Browser. SONAR will automatically import the dragged project into the destination project.

you have both projects open at the same time, right???  go to window then select tile in columns. then just drag the audio or midi tracks from project1 to project 2.  the other thing i do a lot is drag midi clips into one of my personal clip libraries in the media browser, then just drag them into another project when i want to use them.  same with audio.

Hey Soens... no problem. Glad to share. Unfortunately, it seems there are some bugs with this technique. It doesn't seem to always import everything. At least, that's what I'm seeing here. I don't import from other projects often, but I could have sworn it worked fine before.

That's a cool feature I haven't heard about. I'll have to beta test it one of these days :-)

No -- I'm not trying to copy all tracks from one project to another, just one or more tracks.

    Thanks,
    Mike

Have you tried saving those tracks as a template, and then open the template up in another project?

Not sure if it will work, but it may get you closer.

    Good luck.

I haven't tried that, but it had occurred to me. I seem to remember that the midi and envelopes don't get saved with the track templates.

    Thanks,
    Mike
