Help with Initial Midi Setup

Hello all,

Newbie here. Just got back into Sonar after a ten or fifteen year absence.  I bought producer, was allowed to get it at the upgrade price as I had registered my original product so many years ago. I am really enjoying the soft synths that were not available when i was using it back in the day.  My question is in regards to a midi setup for my system.  I apologize in advance if this was answered previously but I could not find anything related to a setup with an external sound module in a way that I could understand what they are trying to explain, even on you tube or google.

Currently I am using a Roland JV90 as my controller, I am using a EMU 1x1 mid interface to connect to my pc.  Everything works fine as far as connecting to the pc and controlling the soft synths. I also have a Roland XV5080 sound module.  (Yes I really enjoy the Roland sounds. ) I was able to download the instrument definition for the XV5080. I currently have the XV5080 connected to the JV90 with a midi cable running from the in on the XV5080 to the through port on the JV90. How do I set the controller to trigger XV5080 sounds and have Sonar recognize them.  I don't think this setup is correct because when I play a key on the controller the XV5080 doesn't no seem to recognize that a key has been played.

So I guess I have a bunch of questions.  How do I connect so I can hear XV5080 sounds again?  How do i get these all connected together so midi signals using the XV5080 module can be used in Sonar?  Is their a way by utilizing just one controller to get XV5080 and soft synths sounds in one project? Do i need a second controller for the XV5080 and another Midi interface? Do I need a 2x2 midi interface.  I have an M-audio Delta 1010lt on my old computer.  I bought it when I originally started getting into Sonar. I can take it from my old computer and put it in the current one if it would help. Any help you guys can givewould be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    Welcome to the forum.
I'm not an expert on MIDI routing and in-depth set-up, but there may be a switch on the controller to allow MIDI info to get through.
You might get more responses in the Cakewalk Hardware forum.
