Fade-in/fade-out with MIDI in Music Creator 6
Sorry if this is a rehash of previous issues, but searching the forum hasn't turned up anything and the MC6 help file isn't exactly useful either. When using the included MIDI Groove Clips on a Cakewalk Sound Center virtual instrument, is there a way to apply a simple fade-in or fade-out? I can manage it on the audio tracks just fine, but there doesn't seem to be a comparable effect for MIDI. And I will freely admit that I have no clue about a lot of this stuff, so please use small words and step-by-step instructions. Thanks in advance for any help anybody can give me.

Simply use a volume envelope on the synth track or even the master bus if everything fades together. I think if you use simple instrument tracks this may not work. IDK because I don't use SI tracks. I use the old school method of INSERT SYNTH or manually inserting a midi and an audio track to set the synth up.... simply use the volume envelope in the audio track where the synth is located and you can fade it out, or use it to control the volume level in mixing.

Okay, I appreciate the tip... However, I don't know a) what exactly a volume envelope is, or b) how to insert/apply/use/modify one. I'm serious about knowing precisely zip about this stuff.

I'm on my phone now but if you search the mc page here on cakewalk you will find a bunch of mc instructional videos. Take the time to find and watch them.

Just right-click in the MIDI track and select Envelopes>Create Track or Clip Volume Envelope. A line will appear through the track or clip. Right-click the line and add Node(s). Drag the node(s) up or down to change the volume. Welcome to the forum.

Greg -= that's not correct with MC6. to create an envelope in MC6 you need to use the SMART tool. Use your CENTER mouse button (click down on the wheel) and the Heads Up Display for the Smart Tool will appear. on the pull down menu in the HUD (it currently will say CLIPS), choose AUTOMATION>VOLUME a volume envelope will appear on the track. make your adjustments, then use the HUD Smart Tool to go back to CLIPS
