Hi

Just posted this song I wrote today using the new bass.  I thought you might want to hear it.  It's a rough mix.  Sorry for the shameless plug!

Edit:  New mix up 3-12-13:

Hi,

So I finally went to look around a bit more, to find out what the big thing about the short scale or long scale thing was all about ... knowing that I did not keep my Fender Jazz Bass, because I could not get the lower and "heavier" tones that I used to get with my old EB-0 that I stupidly let go ... and come to find out that the short scale strings are usually thicker ... thus the "heavier" sound.

Now I really regret having let my EB-0 go! Or not learning what to do, and try different strings on my Jazz Bass ...

There's learning for you! It stunks!

It's not necessarily just that the strings are thicker - the shorter-scale/lower-tension brings out different harmonic content even with identical strings, though obviously strings (and especially string type) make a difference as well.

For free, you might just try tuning down your Jazz or other long scale instrument a whole step and see if it gets closer to what you're looking for, because on a long scale instrument (34" scale) the 2nd fret is where a short scale's nut would be (30").

In order, then, to discover the limit of deepest tones, it is necessary not only to produce very violent agitations in the air but to give these the form of simple pendular vibrations. - Hermann von Helmholtz, predicting the role of the electric bassist in 1877.

So, on my EB-3 I take the E-A-D-G strings and tune them down? And I gotta reset my finggees? ... gotta try that just for fun ... and now I'm gonna go crazy, because I probably will tune these down further than that! Maybe a 5 string is better for that, no?
