Seems as though I read somewhere
That we are aloud to install Sonar on two devices.. Is that correct or am I thinking about some other software?

You don't have to be loud when you do it. You are allowed to install Sonar on two machines but you can't use them at the same time.

Yes, you can install SONAR on more than one machine. You may only use it on one machine at a time though.

Sweet! Work just gave me a Thinkpad Ultrabook. It's both a laptop and a tablet. Will be cool for taking with me if I need to record.

Just out of curiosity...how would one NOT be allowed to use it on both machines at the same time? I never had, but say for instance you were working on a project and someone else was working on a project at your second DAW...is this a legal thing? Forgive my ignorance...I don't get involved in much legal mumbo...

what this prevents is you using a copy and someone else using the same copy. if you were allowed to use both at the same time,it would open up a loop hole to let someone else use the daw. this prevents me giving my buddy jimmy/john doe a copy and then using another version at home. you could alwas say: "he using my version" Because in the studio i worked at for many years,cakewalk/sonar was the system quo.meaning i used a version paid for by someone else,in their studio. now he wasnt using it at the same time so this is okay.

From the horse's mouth: Does this limit the number of times I can install my Cakewalk product? You can uninstall and re-install the software on your computer without having to worry about re-registering or being locked out of the software. Per the End User License Agreement, your purchase of the software grants you the nonexclusive license to have one person use the software on one personal computer at a time. If you want to use the product on more than one personal computer at a time, or if you want to network the product, you must obtain separate licenses from Cakewalk. If you have a second computer that you use on occasion, such as a personal laptop you use when away from your desktop, you may install the product on to the additional computer. You do not need to register the product again, simply use the same registration code tied to your account that has been generated for your unique serial number. Note that per the EULA, the software must only be running on one computer at a time unless you have purchased an additional license.

What's up with that anyway? If those companies using iLocks want to protect their product by treating their paying customers like criminals THEY should provide the freaking dongle. Also I only have one USB port on my laptop so if I ever wanted to use it as a DAW with an iLock I wouldn't be able to hook up my interface. lol

Cakewalk lets you legally install their software on more than one machine. Legally, you can't use more than one machine at a time - as Mr. Jonesey points out you run out of appendages. Cake issues you a serial number but also a registration number. I don't know if a registered machine checks in over the net to its master or not. But the system is designed to keep track of your numbers. That stops you from selling your old copy of SONAR more than keeping it off your 2nd or 3rd machine. If you sell SONAR, you have to give the buyer your reg number but they won't be able to update it. The only way to do that is to give your Cake account number. The system works pretty well w/o all the problems of locks or iLoks. Up until a few years ago there was always someone coming onto the forum wondering why their 3rd party purchase of SONAR wouldn't work. They bought a cheap copy of SONAR w/ serial number but no reg number and it wouldn't work after 30 days. You get what you pay for. Or less. @

And there came forth two she bears out of the wood, and tare forty and two children of them.
