Master volume vs. Roland Quad Capture level

Hey Gang - just plugged in my new Roland Quad Capture and am very happy at initial results. After a quick search, I can't seem to figure out why my master buss levels from Sonar X1 aren't matching my "Output 1-2" levels on my Quad Capture...it's like they're not "calibrated". My master is almost peaking in Sonar and barely hitting -6db on Roland. It's the same if I play one track or a combination of tracks. Sonar always appears "louder" by the meter. Any thoughts? Does it even matter? Thanks in advance! Rizzo

What are your main outs set to in sonar?

What type of meters are you using in the quad? Is is the same as sonar? Do you hear the difference or just see it?

Everything is zeroes across the board. Can't figure out where the "signal loss" is coming from.

I would not sweat it too much. It is more likely due to the fact the output meters in the Quad capture may be of a different type and they may also have a different response compared to Sonar's meters

Sonar's meters are showing peak levels hence they are always going to be reading higher than a meter that might be showing showing something else eg rms or a combination of rms /peak.

Put Sonar's output meters into peak and rms mode and have a look at them and see what the differences are.

Also you are only talking the Quad Capture output metering in software, there are no actual output meters on the unit itself.

The only real way you can calibrate meters properly is to use a continuous sine wave test signal and play that back on a Sonar track and observe the output level (rms) in Sonar and on the Quad Capture. I think the you may find they will agree much more so. Music is not necessarily an accurate way of comparing metering.

The master bus and the Quad-Capture 1-2 master channel in my Sonar (X2a) show almost (if not exactly) the same levels. And the Output 1-2 meter on the Quad-Capture control panel shows the same, too. The level difference is only within 0.5dB range.

I wonder if the main outs are also set to 0 dB?
