Upgrade from 7 to 8.5
- is it still possible to upgrade from Sonar 7 to 8 or 8.5? What are the prices?
- Is the upgrade from 8 to 8.5 a downloadable free patch for users who have 8?

No, it isn't. 8.5 isn't available anymore.
SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre - Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc. The benefit of being a middle aged amateur is the low number of years of frustration ahead of you.

The only legal way is if you find a boxed version that was unopened.

In Cakewalk (and most companies these days) updates are free, upgrades are for pay. 8.5 was a paid upgrade.
