Pro Channel and effects

Hi, Hope this is the right place to post this....
I love the Pro Channel and the use of effects modules where I can then either place an FX preset or a stand alone effect. But can anyone tell me if there is any real difference between doing this and just doing it the old way of placing effects in the FX bin? I don't see any difference myself. Apart from looking good and keeping everything under one roof, sometimes it requires a few more clicks when you're trying to locate the track and effect.   Also, if you place an effect in pro channel and a different effect in the channel strip, which gets processed first?  Jim

I thought the signal flow diagram would answer this, but it only begs more questions.

According to the diagram, on track's the PC is in parallel with the other effects and there's no PC on busses (?)

I'm still not "there" yet with the ProChannel.  There are aspects to it I like a lot, but I never really had an issue with opening windows from the FX bin (though I can completely understand why the PC approach appeals to so many -- it definitely is a cool concept).

I tend to avoid ProChannel because of a problem I had in X2 that required me to edit in X1.  I get a warning in X1 for each and every console instance (I had a few dozen that were automatically there on each track as part of one of the built-in templates), which makes opening the project in an earlier version a real pain.  This has made me shy away from using ProChannel because I need to know that I can go back to an earlier version of Sonar if the current one is giving me grief in some area.

By default the PC is PRE-FX Bin.
It can be POST FX-Bin.  Right-click on the PC module for the track or buss, and select Post FX from the right-click menu.

The PC works the same as the FX bin.  Effects are processed from top down.

I think this was what the OP was asking for?

Kevo is right and gave you the information that is more helpful in answering your question.  I went off at a tangent there into the rationalization of using the ProChannel rather than the real question of how to use it as you had asked.

What Kevo said - the PC "strip" can be either pre or post FX bin.   That's the nice thing about using only the PC in X2 - you can see the FX signal flow from top to bottom, and easily drag and drop to change it.   You can also insert blank FX chains and use their input/output knobs to control the gain from one plug to the next.
