Pro Channel - pre vs post
Hi- when do you set Pro Channel as pre versus post? I am sure there are loads of combinations but just looking for some "rules of thumb". And what about when it is used on the Master buss is that usually done differently than tracks/channels..

I think it makes more sense to set it as pre-fader, because then you can use your console faders to set your final levels. Correct me if I'm wrong, but if it was post-fader then you'd be using your console fader as the first link in the gain stage chain, and you'd be using gain staging to set your final track levels, which seems kinda awkward to me. Although maybe someone can chime in and tell me that I'm completely full of it?

P 967 of the user guide states:
To route ProChannel pre-effects bin or post-effects bin:
By default, the ProChannel signal is routed prior to the channel’s effects bin (pre). To route ProChannel after the effects bin (post), right-click any empty space in ProChannel and select Post-FX bin on the pop-up menu.

You may have placed stuff in the FX-bin that you want before or after the prochannel fx's.
(For me I'd prefer to avoid the fx-bin altogether and place the a bin inside prochannel. So I'd never worry about pre and post)

Oh so it's post FX bin and not fader. Heh...guess I'd never tried setting it to post.

A good reson to put the PC post effects bin would be if you placed a VSTi or a drum replacement VST in the effects bin and wanted control over it's output. A lot of the other reasons were negated when they bakers put an effects bin in the PC.

or if you were trying to master using PC and the concrete limiter. you would put it post on the master buss...I would think. That way you could use the LP Eq in the fx bin.

Yep, this is what I have started doing as well. It keeps everything linear and easier to understand.

Yes that's new to X2. Personally I love that feature. It has made the regular FX bin redundant for me and with it the pre/post setting.

All of my templates are now set up with the Fx bin hidden in Console view - you gain a bit of vertical screen space
