Problems running Focusrite Saffire 6 USB with Sonar X2 at 24 bit.
I'm not able to run my Focusrite Saffire 6 USB in Sonar X2 at 24 bit. It keeps defaulting to 16 bit. I have edited the aud.ini file as instructed in the help section and this hasn't altered anything. Can anybody suggest what drivers to use? ASIO won't run at 24 bit even if I select it. It says it is set to 24 bit in the audio options page but on the main view and in the individual files properties dialog, any file created is 16 not 24 bit. Anybody, what I'm doing wrong. What is it I'm missing here? Many thanks, G. My spec is detailed below:- HP Pavilion P6-2060UK Desktop PC, Intel Core i5, 2.4GHz, 6GB RAM, 1.5TB
HP Intel Core i5-2320 CPU @ 3. GHZ. 6 GB Ram. Focusrite Saffire 6 USB. Sonar X2. NVIDIA GeForce GT530 Graphics Card.

If your audio interface can only use one sample/bit rate at a time, the project will default to that setting when opened. The problem may be in your interface's settings, not Sonar's.

I have one of those I use on my laptop. No problem running it in 24 bit. Are you setting it in properties in Sonar. There is a separate page in preferences to set the recording, import/export audio settings.
Sonar Platinum, Sonar X3e, Sonar X2a , Sonar X1 Expanded and 8.5.3 (32 and 64 bit), Windows 10 on a Toshiba P75-A7200 Laptop with i7 @ 2.4 quad and 8 gigs of RAM and secondary WD 1 Tb drive, Windows 10 desktop, Asus i5 @ 3.2 quad, 12 gigs RAM, 1 Tb drive, 1 500 gig drive, MOTU 24io, 2 Roland Studio Captures, Saffire 6 USB for laptop, Soundtracs Topaz Project 8 mixer, Alesis Monitor 2s, Event BAS 20/20s, Roland Micro-Monitor BA-8s, and 45 years worth of collecting FX, Mics, Amps, Guitars, and Keyboards!

Make sure you set it to 24 in Preferences - File - Audio Data. Then check Preferences-Audio-Driver settings.

Are you setting it in the ScarlettMix software? You have to set the bit depth on the interface then Sonar will follow that bit depth. EDIT: Sorry... I'm not sure if the Saffire uses ScarlettMix (I own a Scarlett so mine does) but whatever software came with the unit is where you want to set the bit depth. You should be able to just click where the bit depth is displayed and select the new bit depth from the pop up menu. Do this with Sonar closed because sometimes it gets confused.

My Saffire 6 definitely runs ok in 24 bit mode Do what Daveny5 said - you need to check/set it in 2 different places

When I installed the drivers for my Scarlett MixControl installed along with them so I thought they were intertwined but now I think I'm remembering an option to not include it on the driver install. It was so long ago though I forget. I've never been able to change those settings in Sonar though so I just use the MixControl thingy to make it happen. I'm kind of curious now. Anyway... I was just popping in for a break after going on a cleaning rampage. Now I'm starting the EQ Explained series and I'm hoping to get it done tonight. Later, dudes.

Just to clear up some confusion, the lower i/o count focusrite interfaces do not have a MixControl software. This includes the Saffire 6, Scarlett 2i2 and Scarlett 2i4. In terms of the issue at hand, make sure that the driver mode is set to ASIO on the Playback and Recording tab of Sonar's prefs and as already mentioned, make sure that the Record Bit Depth is set to 24 bit on the Audio Data tab.
