Sonar 8 nasty keyboard bindings fail to work in LoopExplorer/Staff View
HI folks,
maybe some of you Sonar8.x users have this same problem and they are driving you up the wall??!!
In LoopExplorer VIEW: on the left is the folder tree showing folders containing your favourite sounds and subfolders, on the right is the DETAILS PANE showing the individual audio files. a typical Producer or musician may have a folder open with 100+ audio files, and typically you DO NOT WANT to click MANUALLY on each audio file to *preview* playback that particualr audio file item!!!
I normally navigate around the items using CURSOR left, right, down, up keys, and invoke PREVIEW AUDIO FILE using my favourite mapped keyboard shortcut. In Sonar4, this preview (AUDITION) command is say, mapped to CTRL-SHIFT-SPACE which toggles PREVIEW play/stop.
this allows me to move very quickly through files and preview "on-the-fly"..... stopping when I want to, and moving to the next file, or skipping, etc. this is very useful if I have TONS of audio files or loops to preview / audition.
but in Sonar8: once you place your cursor on the DETAIL PANE, and use cursor keys / mouse to navigate, it no LONGER RESPONDs to the keyboard shorcut for PREVEW, in fact: Sonar8 GUI no longer respond to ANY keyboard shortcuts!!
===> I am force to use the mouse-and-click options which is painfully mundane for such trivial, mundane, reptitive tasks : bad end user experience!!
This is a huge bug and renders the entire workflow pretty much useless.
I can rely on AUTO-PREVIEW, but really, sometimes I don't want sonar8 to playback every file I am browsing through it is annoying.
say if I do arrive at a particular audio file, and select it to put it on current track, AUTO-PREVIEW has no intelligence in its software logic, and does not stop playback, so I have to manually click the stop BUTTON. again: poor logic behavior.
ONCE AGAIN: this is a similar bug to Sonar4 in the STAFF VIEW, where if you click anywhere on the timeline section of the staff, sonar will not respond tokeyboard shortcuts; it is as if it is DISABLED, so your favourite keyboard bindings are gone.
the only way to re-enable the shortcut is to switch VIEW: to anotherr view like Track View, then switch back to that STAFF view, and the keyboard bindins are "reset" and sonar responds - I had to use this "hack" fix for past 5 years, but I am living with this bad end experience just because I don't want to switch to Cubase / Logic for all the time invest in Cakewalk DAW.
does anybody experience this same problem?
how does Cakewalk expect users to work efficiently if they have to drag mouse-and-CLICK for every command that are repetitive?
instead of spending time creating music, in Sonar8 I find myself spending time working around these GUI bugs, fustrating, spending more time on mechanics of tasks, and less time on the creative process!
