Midi luminaries...can you help please....
Good day all... OK...I'll try to be clear as I can and not leave out any pertinent info. For ease of scolling/selecting patches I created an SGX Nitro .ins file to work within X2. I imported the JV1010 as my template and renamed all patches and all (4) banks to the SGX Nitro guitar preamp names/patches which also has (4) banks. Bank A - 115 presets (116-128 I renamed as 'user') Bank B - 115 presets (116-128 I renamed as 'user') Bank C - 115 presets (116-128 I renamed as 'user') Bank D - 71 presets (116-128 I renamed as 'user') When I'm in X2 with BANK A selected I can scroll patches fine. But, when I change to any other 'bank' the SGX Nitro LCD defaults to patch 129 rather than going to patch 1 of the newly selected SGX 'bank'? I even tried to learn something about anything I may have done wrong here: http://home.roadrunner.com/~jgglatt/tutr/bank.htm Understanding the whole midi implementation process has always been a annoyance for my neurons. Apparently, it's beyond my lack of intellect and I've tried everything I can think of with no success. Thanks to all in advance for any help....

perhaps the Nitro needs an MBS/LSB bank command first to change Bank presets as you read. Do you have the midi implementation chart for your SGX? lets take a look at it. I downloaded the manual and I dont see any bank change commands, I see remapping utilities, and I see the foor controller changing programs, so unless you contact texh support and request the info, if its available, youre stuck with the front panel or remapping.

you might be able to perform a bank change as detailed on page 5 of the manual and either attempt to monitor the midi data wuth the midi data monitor function or try to capture the midi data from the mid out jack to a PC equiped with midi ox or a sequencer that captures sys ex.

Hey musicman100.... This link is a page from Glenn Thomas's home page who also wrote a patch editor for the SGX many years ago. It's the owner's manual for the SGX. http://www.glennthomas.net/art/resources/sgxnitro.pdf His homepage is here should anyone else be interested: http://www.glennthomas.net/art/ I think page 57-59 are the pages you refer to. I'm totally clueless after reading it more than once. You're a good man for chiming in on this PMO I've been dealing with. Thank you...and Wookie too. EDIT: regarding Page 5 - even if I set up BANK B in X2 and change the bank on the Nitro to that same BANK as soon as I start to scroll in X2 it automatically goes to patch 129 on the Nitro instead of patch 1 on the selected BANK B, C or D.

"ewe Craig, im bass akwards, i knew what you meant" Ha...and you're still parsecs ahead of me in grasping these ominous midi implementation concepts. Thanks all.... It just occured to me that I can send via email the .ins file if someone actually wanted to check it out. Don't know if that's helpful or not and acknowledge that would beyond the call of midi help duty. :)

SGX Nitro guitar preamp That interesting because midi specs are program changes for 128 patches (0-127 with 0 being 1 or 0, confused?) so something behind the scenes is going on. That link you provided is the one I looked at, not a lot of information there,, try contacting ART tech support and see if your unit supports bank change and what messages if it does.

musicman100... I noticed that also. When I imported the JV1010 it notes patches 1-128 in the 'Patch Names for Banks' in the 'Define Instuments and Names' category. 1) Proteus FX module, also having 4 banks, has "* = General MIDI" under that same category and the Proteus works fine. 2) Roland MBD-1 has 2 banks and is also "* = General MIDI" and works fine. 3) Roland MVS-1 has 2 banks and states "1-128" and works fine. It has occured to me with the help here that maybe I need to choose a template that uses "0-127" for it to work properly? Any thoughts about that possiblity? Would that still be problematic because a patch of 000 would acually be 001 on the SGX a would still not behave accurately? Thank you....

"usually", and I mean to qualify that, the GM bank has a unique MSB/LSB (right Craig ?) to select the GM and its subset bank. I think if you had the wrong patch change message, ie:0 instead of 1 it would just throw your patch change off by one position.. I "think" I read you can change banks from the foot controller without touching the front panel, is that correct??? Did you say you have the foot controller? we may be able to capture its sys ex bank change message and then include it into your project..if indeed it is sys ex and not a true MSB/LSB..

No.....I do not have the X-15 foot controller. I've checked the Nitro midi settings and all are enabled. I tried the SGX midi choice to 'send all presets' and 'send entire MPT' to X2 via my 8portSE and no luck. I don't know about the sysex file aspects of this dilemma or how I retrieve the sysex file to possibly send to X2? I also noticed in the SGX midi parameters refers to "midi program 24 - preset 25" eluding to patches being off by one postition in the 0-127 midi call out. A more applicable link about SGX midi I just found: http://www.glennthomas.net/art/sgxnitro/sgxnitro.htm Although this may refer mainly to the SGX patch editor that he wrote which I don't really use. Many thanks gents....

try this... hook the MIDI OUT of your Nitro to the MIDI IN of your DAW ARM atrack to record with the midi input of the repective midi port the Nitro is connected to bring up the notro in that bank select page hit record on the DAW change a bank on the Nitro stop record and examine in events pane to see if you see any midi info if this fails, open the sys ex dump, set it to receive sys ex, go through the Nitro bank change routine from the front panel again... see if you capture any sys ex.. hope this helps

I did try to send the midi presets on the Nitro to the DAW but no change. (post 12) Will do what you suggest and will advise on the results. Thanks for giving it some thought and commenting. "I'll be bock" EDIT: Tried your suggestion and NO midi events showed up. Don't know the significance but just noticed (X2) that Edit/preferences/MIDI/playback the box IS checked for: "Always use Sysex Banks for MIDI files (instead of Sysex Data)" The box IS NOT checked for: "Write Cabel Meta events to MIDI Files (port select). Margarita anyone?....thank you.
