missing files

Why did Sonar x1 just loose all my audio files for a song? It can't find the files & replaces them with silence. I have an autosave copy but not the most current. Thanks.

sonar doesn't do anything you don't ask it to do.
    was it a .CWP ?

.CWP files have two main parts, the cwp itself and then the other folder with all the audio content.
midi data is contained within the .CWP file.

    hope this helps

SONAR will never delete an audio file that was being used in a project when it was saved. The link between the track and the audio file can be broken in various ways, but the audio file will still be where it was originally saved on disk unless you deliberately use Clean Audio Folder to get rid of unused files.

If a project can't find files, it's usually because either the CWP file or the WAV files were moved (or audio files renamed) after the fact.

If you're using per-project audio folders, it should be easy to figure out what's what by dates and names, and re-associate the correct file(s) with the track.

Thanks for yr responses. Yes CWP...no midi data...yes per project. Maybe I just did something wrong.

Lost audio can result from saving a file or importing audio without using the "Copy all audio with project" option. That is found towards the bottom of the "save as" dialogue and also in the "Import Audio" dialogue box.

If you don't use that option and try to load the file while the original audio location is unavailable such as on a disconnected external or network drive you will get the "Missing audio" message.

As Brundlefly has already said, unless you specifically deleted the audio it will be somewhere on your system. All you need to do is work out where the audio was originally stored. Probably either your global audio folder, the original project folder, or the location that you imported any audio from - it will depend on your settings and how the project was constructed.
