Sknote release REV 250 Reverb $29.99

Just released the REV 250 reverb, hoping it will be as good as his last emulation of the dbx165.

$29.99 so usual bargain pricing.

Another request for an opinion on the reverb unit. They got mp3 samples on the website but not a demo to download. Price is right. Sounds okay, but with Valhalla, Reverberate, others, is this something to otherwise die for? Best to all of you and thanks for feedback. John K

    Hey Guys,

Went for this so can give at least a subjective opinion, hi and lo.

First had a couple glitches in the transaction. The dev was there before I could get between computers, so customer support is excellent. Proven in the trenches that end support is real.

No dongles, no online activation, just your copy authenticated to you for your use. Respected developer emailed with his thoughts that punishing the user is futile and worthless. This is what we got to support.

Reverb is good. Cross between what to my ears is a spring and plate hybrid. Can control the decay. Good effect that has its place.

The phaser is more of a chorus than a phaser. Among the different settings between chorus and phaser, some good stereo depth effects with fine tuning.

I like the delay. Though not control over tone and modulation, there is a high point being able to span the depth from mono to full ping pong.
Many delay units out there have a ping pong option, but not the ability to apply a gradient.

Only glitch so far is trying to get the reverb variants V1 through V4. Only V1 is selectable on my system. Also can't select the bypass mode, though the mix control does the job.

Interesting unit. Has its place and solid support from the dev.

    Best,
    John K

wanted to edit in that the effects are independent as far as I can tell. Can't run the reverb at the same time with the chorus or the like. Would be a good upgrade in time to multi process the signal.

    Clarification,

As per the developer, slots v2-thru V4 are for future expansions. Not selectable yet and not a bug.

    Best,

I have VRoom, Breeverb and Wizooverb.  Does this bring an element of sound I can't get from those along with perfectspace. etc.?

I went for it too John.

I also picked up Verbtone & StageSpace, but haven't had a chance to install them yet

    The dev's is named Quinto.

When I emailed him, he got back to me the next day - [he's in Italy].

When I purchased late last night, my download links were in my email by noon.

I like to support these smaller guys. Mildon Studios is another.

Great products, easy to navigate - excellent prices, top notch communication & personal support.

    Some of his things are like $3.00, 6.00, 9.00, 12.00, 24.00.

Great to see some feeback on this, looks really good but having just bought some new piano librarys may have to wait a bit.

Quinto certainly seems a great guy and has always seems to respond to requests for added features and improvements.

I have the stripbus plugins which are great fun and the 165DBX emulation which is really good on drums great value compared to NI and UAD versions.

I am curious how this compares to the original hardware and what different flavours it gives compared to the likes of valhallaroom. (V3 has also been on my radar)

That's the important question if Breverb, Valhalla and others can do the same thing. If REV 250 has a unique place making another purchase needed.

Hard to say. I got very similar results with the audiomidi version of Breverb.

As the hardware emulator, the tweaking is not as vast as Valhalla and some of the frequency filters have minimal effect, so you have a bright reverb the way it comes across.

It is unique though. Playing with the predelay and the time of the reverb gets some very nice dimensional positioning. Definitely a good unit.

It only has one style which feels like a hybrid plate and room with a bit of granular spring thrown in.

The chorus settings are about standard for traditional units.

The delay doesn't have a sync option that I've found yet and the way the sliders work to control the feedback isn't intuitive at first. It does have the ability to span from mono to full ping pong.

The four units are independent and can't be run at the same time, which would be a big plus.

I'm glad I got it for the price and will be using it.

The soundclip demos on the website represent an accurate picture.

If you have Valhalla, Breverb and are short on funds, this one maybe not needed. For the price if you have some extra to spend, not a bad investment.

Also, this is the first release version with buttons there yet to be activated. Will be interesting to see what the dev does with these. With a couple more good algorithms thrown in, this will be a no brainer.
