Audio signal converter question

Hi Guys,
I have a TC-Helicon Voice Prism Plus, which I use for special vocal effects. I have been inputing it into my Xonar DX2 Line In with no problems. I want to input to the spdif input from the COAX Digital Output on the VPP, I tried a converter from Cables to Go, EV-601. it has a reversable COAX Digital to Toslink Spdif, and Toslink Spdif to COAX Digital, via a switch, and an external Power Supply. When I hooked it up, Sonar Producer X2 recognizes the DX2 Spdif Input Device OK, but when I turned on the VPP, I couldn't get a vocal signal to my surround sound. It had been working OK from my mixer, pluged into the Line-In via. Spdif hung me up, and I had to reboot and straighten out my sound system, before I could get it working again on the old method.

My question is, anybody had any success recording audio via spdif-input to surround sound. and if so, what worked for you.
Thanks for any help.
Ronnie Bee

BTW: I love the new Sonar X2. It works great once I got used to the new interface.

Just a guess but is Sonar your clock master? SPDIF needs one device as the wordclock master.
And another thing I'm not clear on,  is all my SPDIF  connections are only stereo. Those TOS link surround systems are a different kettle of fish. So not sure if it even can be done with Sonar.

    Thanks for the reply Johnny,
I have one other option I can try. My Xenix 16 track mixer has a USB output that is supposed to go direct to my computer. Since I purchased my Roland E-09 Arranger KB, I'm now back using my MPU401 for midi, which inputs direct to my Xonar Soundcard. I was using a Yamaha with USB. I will try unstalling the Old USB Driver for the Yamaha, and reinstalling the Xenix USB driver for my 16 track. That will be better than spdif input, since it will go direct to the PC, via USB. I couldn't use the USB before, because The USB for the Xenix was incompatible with the USB for Yamaha. I just thought of that Last night. I will post results when I get every ready and see if it works OK.

I hope it does, because Surround Sound is Delicious on my 7.1 Logitec DTS system.

    Hi Guys,
I found out that USB midi vocals and my Xonar D2x Soundcard audio inputs are mutually exclusive so my best solution; since I am already recording Surround and Playing it Back successfully, was to continue using my SC audio input and routing it through the DTS feature in the SC software. Then I can route the recorded vocal via my surround card busses, and route the SS individual vocals to my main input on the Xonar D2x SC. This allows me to throw the vocals anywhere with the surround sound panner in X2/X3.

I still haven't found any software that will record surround audio to CD media, except my Avid Movie Software, which I could use with Sonar to create a Surround Music Video. That is the project I am working on Now, but it is a complicated learning curve. Once I get it down pat, Maybe I can write a paper on what I accomplished for those who wish to do the same.

The Xonar D2x will emulate 7.1 Surround on my Altec Lansing 5.1 System, and it really sounds great, coming from my sonar X2/X3 Producer software. The D2x creates the 7.1 side surround virtual speakers by balancing the two front and rear speakers in the center. Amazing. The D2x was built by Asus to work with their mother boards. I'm using Asus P5N-D.

I have just upgraded to Sonar X3 Producer, and have found a glitch in copying midi to the proper track, so I'm of to research that problem while I'm here. I haven't been on the forums lately because I lost my sweet wife In Dec 7, 2010 and I'm just now getting back into music production.
